Box outside the house

When I received the Voice set up instructions it has a diagram of the box on the out side of the house. It says to open the customer side and remove the wire. When I go to my box outside and open the customer side there is a wire that runs to the other side that I can not open. There is no way to disconnect it. Do I just cut that wire or does someone know how to over come this. Thanks

You may need a line tech to come out and replace your NID (The box outside of the house). Before I got Uverse installed a line tech came out and replaced the drop coming to my home as well as the NID.

Thank you. I did not want to pay for that because the service was so easy to install. I thought about it after I sent this and thought if I cut it I will loose the other services coming into the house like the internet. That would not be good. I might just try the line I have and see if I have any problems.
