The NVG510 implements NAT, and by default no inbound connections can come through NAT, so you'll be safe.

Exciting news: a new error message in the NVG510 log file.  The first few lines are the same old problem, but the line beginning with DSLF_ is new (at least to me).  Are there any clues here?  Thanks, Dan.

I was teaching until right now but will try your suggestion Thursday.  Unless you don't think it will work, my plan is to turn on the NVG510 wifi, then connect to it with an iPad.  Again, let me know if there's a problem with that scheme.

Or just simply override the DNS settings. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Google's, 68.94.156.1 and 68.94.157.1 are AT&Ts. See if that helps. Wonder if the 99.99.99.53 and 99.99.99.153 DNS servers are messed up somehow

The NVG510 has some known issues with DNS. Follow fearlessuser's recommendation, and use either the Google DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or use the OpenDNS servers at 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

OK, I give up.  How the heck do I change the dns addresses on the NVG510?  I've searched the web UI and tried telnet.  Can't find anything in the web UI and telnet refuses to connect.  This is really making me crazy.  I'm going to bed.  Thanks for any help.

Not sure if there is one in the modem. I have one of the 2Wire modems, no way to do it there. Either do it on the PC directly, or in the sonic wall I think you said you had as part of it's dhcp scheme

Sorry, I wasn't exactly clear -- you will have to change the DNS settings on each individual device/computer, they cannot be changed in the modem itself.
