My original U-verse install was for internet, TV and Uvoice phone. I already had AT&T DSL so the switch to internet was easy. They were unable to receive a signal for connecting Uvoice so I kept my landline. Just left a thread (Got my install today) where some were saying the install tech's have said there is no longer a need for DSL filters with AT&T internet through U-verse. Am not sure whether having landline or voice is a factor to be considered.
Question for the user tech wizards:
Is there any need to have DSL filters on any of your phone lines, internet/modem/computer connections, etc.. with U-verse and the internet? Also if these filters are in place is there a problem with leaving them there? Can they reduce signal strength?
I have at least 10 DSL filters in place connected to all phones, phone line splitters, and even between my STB/DVR and wall plate phone jack. Note: The STB/DVR is not near the RG and I use another STB near it for main TV. No filter between STB & RG. Cat 5e is run straight to my computer from the RG with no DSL filter. But there is a DSL filter between phone line and modem.
Thanks for your help!

This seems like one of the better threads to piggy-back onto, although I was thinking of starting a new thread.
I have had U-Verse "triple play" (all 3 services) for a little over a year, switching from AT&T phone and Internet and a cable company's TV. Of course with AT&T DSL, we had DSL filters for phone lines including the modem of one computer used for faxing. Aside from the computer faxing line, all our phones are part of a cordless set consisting of 4 handsets with the base plugged into a DSL wall filter. So despite other people saying a DSL filter is not needed and perhaps is undesirable, the 2 phone jacks in use (we have others not in use) have DSL filters between the wires and the jacks.
Now I have purchased a new All-in-One (multifunction) printer - an Epson Workforce 630 - and have it connected to another phone jack for the faxing function (otherwise it prints wirelessly). When I first connected it using a DSL filter and serially connected a phone to the device's phone-out jack, I got static. Removing the DSL filter, the phone works fine.
I am using U-Verse voice mail which usually picks up on the 4th or 5th ring, and have the fax function set to pick up on the 6th ring with Auto Answer set, because. So far I have had no success receiving faxes.
I am wondering whether the problem is the (lack of) DSL filter, the number of rings, the need to use manual mode to receive fax due to a general inability of all of this to work with U-Verse, or what. Help?

I don't have a fax, but all DSL filters should be removed if you have Uverse (and the installer should have removed them all).

What changes, for better or worse, should I expect to see? As I said, my cordless phone set and the computer/fax in my office are using DSL filters and work just fine I think the wall-mounted DSL filter for the cordless phone base station in the kitchen has a bypass socket so I'll try that first and see what happens.

As mentioned, I don't have a fax, so I can't comment what changes that will make. But the DSL filters were for splitting the data from voice over one line; that isn't needed now with UV. IIRC, some people in the past reported DSL fiters causing interference.

I removed all my DSL filters when Uverse was installed and never had any static or fax problems. I've read post where people with new fax machines have had success getting the machine to receive faxes by lowering it's baud rate to 9800. My fax machine is old so it's probably running at a slow speed which is probably why it's never given me problems.

I have a fax machine that works just fine. It is older but it has worked from day one with no issues.

Again with Uverse professional install AT&T filters YOUR WHOLE HOUSE/PREMISE with an integrated filter at the NID so no need for manual filters at every jack of the house anymore.
