just ordered u-verse tv and max turbo internet. i was wondering is it better to use the att router they supply by itself and not have my router behind it.
reason i ask is i have a netgear wndr4500 that is basically brand new (couple months old) and i don't want it to collect dust. what are the pros and cons of having another router behind the u-verse gateway...
tech is coming today to install it. alot of you have experience with this but this is my first time with u-verse. is there anything i should ask the tech to do so i get the fastest speed possible.

Well, if "G" wireless and a 100 Mb switch are satifactory, then by all means, stick with the Uverse gateway.![]()
if you're going to use the WNDR4500, you'll want it (centrally) located in the home for best wireless coverage. You'll want all your computers and such to connect to the WNDR, both wired and wireless. You will want a CAT5 run from the WNDR to the Uverse gateway and any STBs (TV tuners), on CAT5 runs back to the Uverse gateway.
Once you have your service up and running stop back and we can go over the configuration of the gateway and the WNDR.

Normally an installer is not supposed to assist with third-party router setup (most don't have the smarts or training to handle it anyway).
If all the installer did was plug your netgear into the RG, they may not have set it up properly.
If your computer is connected to the Netgear router, you may have to connect it directly to the RG to gain access.
Did they set up the Netgear as an access point or as a router behind router?

he hooked the two up and i have no idea how he did it. i went back and reinstalled the R/G and my router so now i have acess to log in to the R/G. whatever way he did it blocked me from changing settings to the R/G. i have the R/G wireless turned off and everything connects to my netgear router. so far everything runs smooth.

Great, glad to hear everything is up and running. Be sure to stop back if you have any other questions.
