I am getting a security error message while using Outlook. This stated on 11/20. It is from a pop.att.yahoo pop3 server. I have tried Uverse chat and Tier 2 but no one can offer any help. The dates on the certificate are 11/20/2011 to 11/20/2013 so it is valid but the certification issuer will not verify it! Anybody have any idea where to go with it?

From David (our trusted ATT tech):
it's kind of like the whole outlook password pop up thing. Since we don't support individual mail clients anymore (they only support web browser e-mail) it's either too many devices checking email at the exact same time or a client issue.
My personal opinion is I don't feel sorry for anyone using MS outlook. I divorced it back in 2003 when I said "No thanks, enough is enough." Though if I happen to take a client again Thunderbird would be my choice. The trend seems to be growing to only use webmail as well. I suspect this is due to smartphones are able to check webmail, and the fact that you have to be online to get e-mail, why not just webmail anyway (as my wife puts it). ![]()

Uverse general support does not support email clients such microsoft outlook, windows mail, mac mail, eudora, etc. They have connectech that supports out of scope issues. You can subscribe to it. It's $15/month. Or you can try this website I found online. http://www.modemhelp.net/oeerrors/oe.shtml

They won't solve that problem (but will gladly take your money), as not supporting email clients means nothing will help as they are archaic and a part of the past. Webmail is the future as David has posted (I've been using it for many years). ![]()

This is a security issue with the service AT&T supplies (POP3 servers) not an issue with Outlook. I am a 40 year IT vet and a Uverse user for almost 3 years and I have been using Outllok way before that. I get a little aggravated everytime somebody tries to get me support. AT&T just needs to fix the problem!

They are not going to, that's what no longer supporting email clients means. ![]()

"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"

I mentioned earlier that I am an over 40 year IT vet and have spent most of that time in a service roll. One thing I learned early was that you ALWAYS do what is of the best interest of the customer. That includes dealing with vendors that contribute to the support of the customer. The pop servers have BOTH AT&T and Yahoo in the URL. That tells me that AT&T is involved somehow. I don't pay Yahoo for this service and I pay AT&T a ton of money every month. Bottom line it is a service and AT&T owns it as far as I am concerned!

This is just MHO but I'd ditch AT&T's e-mail and go with a 3rd party service like Fastmail. For a small annual fee you get really first rate service and more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at. Also, you can just decide to pull the plug on ATT & go to another ISP without having to make any changes to your e-mail.

OK. A non very tech savvy guy who just switched from Charter cable to ATT U verse. I have been able to set up Outlook 2010 to access my ATT e mail account but am unable to access my non ATT account completely. I can receive but not send. Error message indicates that outgoing server cannot be accessed. I used the same server settings while on Charter and had no problems accessing the non ATT account.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

If your non ATT account was using Port 25, it won't work because Uverse blocks Port 25.

Thanks. So is there a way to unblock port 25 or switch to one which is not blocked?

Try port 587 or 465 instead of port 25.

Neither 465 or 587 work. 25 does come up as the default

It is our own domain--companyname.com. I worked just fine on same computer, same Outlook 2010, while using Charter. Only change has been moving to ATT as the ISP. Is this situation what ATT calls an "alias" account? If so I am unclear which server and log on info to provide where. The documentation seems to call for the ATT account info some place(s) and the alias (?) others--very confusing.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!

If no other port will work other than port 25, call Technical Support and request that it be be unblocked. I believe there is a fee for unblocking that port.

Thanks. I first talked with ATT support. What a rip! They claimed to know nothing about Outlook or non ATT e mail. But they were ready to refer me to their "pay for support" group which apparently does know about these mysteries. I didn't go there. It just dowesn't seem right to have to pay for this kind of setup support. Charter Cable alowed me to use Outlook andaccess my non ATT account. So I called my web hosting company. They said to try port 26 instead of 25. Problem solved, using all of the server setup settings which come up for the e mail account, with only the channel change.
Thanks for the help!
