I just got U Verse service for the first time and have unfortunately noticed regular messages stating that "Safari cannot reach this specific website.". and notes like that. If I persist, many times I am able to get finlly to the specific site. Contacted UVerse by phone and also by the Net and talked to a total of 15 U Verse mployees and tech people (level 2) with no success. The problem still exists. Have found the U Verse employees generally polite even though I was disconnected (probably accidental) 4x and my call was referred to the wrong department 1x. One tech admitted that perhaps U Verse might have problems with my new Mac. They tried to change my controls but that did not work. They tried to lower my speed of connections but that did not work. Will give U Verse exactly 2 more weeks and if the problem is not resolved, I will drop their wifi "service".
As for service, I initially talked to a U Verse sales rep and asked for the basic $14.95 plan. She told me all of the charges and I signed up. Fortunately, I did not sign for automatic payment. My first bill, U Verse charged me $45/month instead of the $14.95. When I protested and requested a corrected bill, they sent me one for $25/month. When I called and protested again, one sales rep said the sales person was not authorized to offer me a $14.95.service until I was with them for 2 months or so. She then changed her tune and said she wold not send me the corrected bill I requested. I would have to pay the $25/month charges plus the additional fees for a few months and then my account would be reumbursed for the overpayment. Cannot believe what has happened. I am left with an incorrect bill and also a problem system that they do not seem to be able to repair.
It appears that U Verse and AT & T has more "problems" than just with their equipment. Do not appreciate being billed for somethnig I did not order. Put that on top of a system that has problems not just with me but with all of you and that does not sit well with me.
Sorry for the grumbles. Any one of you out there have a MacBook Pro, have had problems and can give me a suggestion on what I can do. Even with my Ethanet cable attached and away from my refrigerator (the tech said that could contribute to the problem) my system still gives me grief.

You can find it under preferences/network. Change the number there to 8.8.8.8
But the big difference comes with Google chrome. 10 times faster than Safari.

Got a phone call from a level 2 supervisor yesterday. He advised that he has seen the numerous groups of dropoffs on his end in my service. That reassures me that the problem is realy happening. On the down side, he admitted that there is nothing that AT&T/U Verse can do to correct the problem. Guess it amounts to paying for U Verse basic coverage that repeatedly drops connections easily every 3rd or 4th connection or to look around for another WiFi company.
Appreciate the input from one of you who suggested that I try to use a Google rather than the Safari setup. Will ask others around me how to get it up and running.
Was empowered when I read about quite a few others on this site who also were experiencing U Verse drop offs. That let me know it was not just me having problems.
Also appreciate that AT&T has this site for customers to talk to each other about a variety of issues. Have no doubt it is monitored by AT&T U Verse employees and suspect that many are assigned to answer questions and put out potential fires.
It is courageous for a company to provide an open forum even though some comments might be negative about service issues. One positive note is that in speite of all of the problems, calls and Internet tech help I received, for the most part, most AT&T U Verse employees were courteous, professional and really seemed like they wanted to help.

Thank you for your information. I'll give it a try. As much as I might have several problems with AT&T U Verse right now, I have to thank them for making this site available.

This is actually a peer-to-peer forum, just customers helping each other by volunteering their time.
Newly-added ATT employees are Community Managers or Community Specialists, or if a Moderator or regular member IS an employee, they are required to have it as a designated signature (appears after their post).
You'll get great results here on this forum because we actually have the service, whereas a lot of Tech Support persons do not. But glad to hear you had good results with Tech Support!
There aren't too many situations we haven't seen already, or experienced ourselves; so don't be shy, ask away!
Many knowledgeable and tech-smart people here.
Welcome to the forums! ![]()
(and I am NOT an ATT employee)

and 68.94.157.1 this has worked for me with Uverse for years with Safari.

I have had uverse less than a week with many disruptions in service, unable to connect, and hours of calls to ATT tech support with repetitious reboots. (Not exaggerating) I feel like I know many of ATT tech people by first name and they have been great if the service has not lived up to advertising. I live in a rural area and have recently begun to participate in videoconferencing group. Speed is not matching up to sales pitch and trying to get connected and losing connectivity at beginning of a group time has not increased my satisfaction with uverse. I was happy with my DSL until I needed the increased speed. I wish I had other options here. I will probably be dropping U-verse if something better ever comes to my rural area if U-verse doesn't get their act together. I was told by a support person that they are working on their computer issues and updates will be coming along.. .

Try contacting Alex, one of the AT&T Community Managers for further assistance.

One more thing on newer Apple products for wireless be sure to set the encryption to WPA2 only this will solve other issues and its the best consummer encryption to date.
