I am ready to perform a self-install of U-verse Voice. I do not have an outside phone box. There is a green data cable running from my RG to what I believe is the network interface. Can I simply unplug the green data cable from the Phone port and instead plug it into the Line 1/Line 2 port on the RG? If so, when should I call the toll-free number to activate the U-verse service; before or after the cable switch? I want to be able to use all of my existing phone jacks after the install. Also, the RG is mounted in an unfinished basement, so I will not be locating a phone near the RG.

Leave the green data cable where it is and simply run a phone cable from the Phone line 1 & 2 port on the back of the RG and plug it into an existing house phone wall jack, that should backfeed to all the other phone jacks in the house, then call and have the phone line activated.

The instructions say (1) Connect, (2) Power Up and (3) Activate. After I ran the phone cable from the Phone Line 1 & 2 port on the RG to the base of my cordless phone, I restarted the RG and waited for 15 minutes. When I tried to activate the phone line from my cordless phone there was no dial tone. The POTS line was still working. Should I call to activate the phone line from my existing POTS service? Also, should the Phone 1 line light on thr RG be steady green? It is not illuminated at all.

Called Tech Support on December 29. They said a technician had to come out to my home because I needed an equipment upgrade. They scheduled an appointment for January 21. On January 20, a package arrived with a self-install kit (my second one; I had already received back in October). On January 21, the technician was a no-show. Called later in the week to complain about the technician not showing up. Received an apology and an appointment the next day. In the meantime, AT&T went ahead and activated my service that day, so I was without phone service for 24 hours. The technician actually showed up this time and had my U-verse Voice service up and running in less than 10 minutes. He spliced the green cord from the phone jack on the RG with the white cord from the Line 1 & 2 jack on the RG. He did not use the empty wall jack nearby. Definitely not a self-install scenario.

Glad they got you fixed up. Don't forget to call and get credit on your bill for the time without services. ![]()
