Yes, they ran the cable from the basement to the 2nd floor bedroom through the heating duct. This concerns me - but I don't know alot about construction. I'm also upset that he drilled directly through my carpet along with the floorboard to bring the cable into the living room.

Also trying to say "cant it be in the walls" shows a lack of understanding of how a wall is made. If it is on the outside wall of a building that has brick, one can forget fishing, due to the brick. It can be done but not without risk of making holes at some point. Also fire stops could be in the walls. A fire stop is a horizontal piece of wood between joists. An electrician would open the wall of the bit used could not go through it. And then tell you to get a wall guy to fix it. But this is at&t. They are not going to do damage that they cannot fix. So Like Cable... they are gonna run OUTSIDE the wall. Now this matters not if you are rich or poor. Its business. Low voltage is NOT in pipe so adding a new cable to a room or phone is sometimes going to require Drilling.
Lastly, some people really need to get off their high horse regarding drilling and construction. There are MANY MANY holes in your home already. If you want something done AFTER the walls are done, guess what must be done? Drilling! So going through floorboards is a non issue. How do you expect things to get from downstares to upstares?
I have seen people complain about the BACK of their homes having cable lines or a dish on the roof like it decreases value. NO ONE is looking at that as being a BAD thing to have a dish on your home. And if they are, there certainly are not enough people so as to NOT buy your home and drop its value! So for those that complain about that... How about the Electric lines that are coming from the pole to your home? Perhaps you should have the electric company BURY a drop for you.
If your home has Buried drops already... Great! But that doesnt make YOUR home better than those that have drops!!! Look, your home has services. Phone, Electricity, Heat/air. Water. ALL need to Drill, Make holes, Run lines. And ALTER your home if you want services BEYOND what you got when you GOT the house. THIS is called REMODLING. So if you dont want to ADD to the house, DONT get anything, and have old tech in your home. But If you are a home owner, You WANT new tach. That HELPS your house.
I have seen people view their basement ceiling and call the open ceiling Ugly and drywall it up. Then they get a plumbing issue as many homes do, and Now the plumber is expected to NOT open a wall?! You want new cable drops or phone or electrical runs outside the present runs and you DONT want holes drilled?
THAT is NOT thought out. Not realistic. Thats like saying you want your computer to have a bigger hard drive but you dont want anyone opening your computer to do it!!!LOL Or you want a surface Pool in the back yard, but you dont want to ruin the earth below it. Or you want central air installed but you dont want any holes drilled in walls or floors for the lines to enter!!! So what do you think? You just place the unit on the ground outside and the cool air just Floats in the house?
If you want a light and a new switch, all you have to do is make a box in the wall and the switch will control the light in the ceiling?
If you dont Understand HOW construction works, dont Knock the man who Does and is trying to explain it to you.
