After exterminator finished (for fleas) this afternoon, I noticed a blood track on the carpet from the *holding room*. Went in and found lots of bright red blood with big clots in it all over the bed...from Clovis. He had it happen a few hours earlier and a few weeks before. Hard to get his mouth to stop bleeding, looks like it's coming from the gums, but both sides under the big top saber teeth.
Vet said to bring him on in instead of tomorrow, but she had a funeral to attend. The techs were going to check him out before they closed and will be checking through the morning.
Anyone ever had this with a cat before? Tell me it isn't something fatal. ![]()
Poor Jemima heard our voices and started howling! Samantha just stayed in the back of the cage and glared at me like I was a stranger.
Tony looked good and said hi and was actually sleeping in a little bed instead of the litter box.

Doesn't look like Clovis was going to share that laptop with anybody. ![]()
Hope all your cat problems are over by the end of the year.

Yeah, Clovis is my bud...in the office he'll lay on the keyboard.
Just talked to the Vet, and all she can find is an irritation of the hard pallet. He had some anemia, but probably from the fleas (even though he's been getting monthly Frontline). The bathed him which I was planning on next week.
Devastating news, he's now a diabetic. I'm just in shock. He's been steadily losing weight on diet food, no treats or people food and has lost 4 lbs. (equal to 40 people lbs.). A friend who had a diabetic cat said he'd help me to make a chart and show me how to do the calculations, and has a glucose meter I can have (his cat died recently, but lived with diabetes for over 10 years, and he wasn't overweight). I'm just numb... ![]()

This came to me in an e-mail today. My bed kind of feels like that.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I am a cat lover myself so I know your pain.
I can tell you my cousins cat is diabetic and is living a wonderful life with the proper medication.
Keep us posted please

Thanks...just finished watching these videos that were linked in the brochure from the Vet:
http://partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/pet/fhc/diabetes
More helpful vids here (drop down for Feline):
http://partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/vet/client
Been subscribed to Cornell's paper publication (Cat Watch) for a few years now and saw my Vet has them as well.
http://www.catwatchnewsletter.com/index.html
And Tufts' has a similar publication called Catnip:
They've both had articles about cat diabetes before, but I never paid much attention. ![]()
Cornell has a newsletter for dog people as well, Dog Watch:
http://www.vet.cornell.edu/publicresources/dog.htm
Clovis took his pill this afternoon w/o much fuss; wouldn't eat the canned diabetic food even w/chicken broth.
Did eat the diabetic dry food yesterday, but balking today. Wouldn't take his chewable vitamin, so it will be the horrible liquid that stains and will not come out of fabrics/carpets (Vet warned). He's laying in front of the monitor now and is happy, I'd never know anything is wrong.

Don't bail on pills until you try these:
http://www.greenies.com/en_us/Products/FelinePillP
Callahan gets his daily thyroid medication inside of one of those and he's yet to refuse his nightly "treat"
Check with the doc to see if they are ok for diabetic cats.

Nobody here will fall for Pill Pockets (before Greenies bought them out).
Leo used to go for it and then he wised up. Clovis doesn't like canned food, only the juice.
Vet knows about his little quirk and she was fine with that. Problem with the diabetes canned is NO juice, so why I thought the chicken broth (in a box) might work, no luck.
Worried now about how he'll get any food...have to talk to vet tomorrow.
You know, at first when he started the diet food, we were told to hope for the best because if he lost too fast, that could cause problems. He lost slowly and now look where he's at.
Son did say he'd come along for the training...and he is Clovis' boy.
Not in a million years did I think we'd ever have to deal with this.

My cat has digestive problems so she is fed prescription cat food only.
A little pricey but she is worth it

Received this in an e-mail and thought I would pass it along.
IF PETS KEPT DIARIES
DOG DIARY
8:00 AM - Dog food! My favorite thing!
9:30 AM - A car ride! My favorite thing!
9:40 AM - A walk in the park! My favorite thing!
10:30 AM - Got rubbed and petted! My favorite thing!
12:00 PM - Lunch! My favorite thing!
1:00 PM- Played in the yard! My favorite thing!
3:00 PM - Wagged my tail! My favorite thing!
5:00 PM - Milk bones! My favorite thing!
7:00 PM - Got to play ball! My favorite thing!
8:00 PM - Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing!
11:00 PM - Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!
CAT DIARY
Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or
some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly
clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The
only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust
them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today, I decapitated a mouse and dropped
its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their
hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely
made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am.
B******s! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was
placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could
hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to
the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my
advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again
tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners
here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is
regularly released -- and seems to be more than willing to return. He is
obviously retarded.

Spd Diane Rehm was interviewing a Zoology Professor on her show today and one of the callers said his dog looked forward to his insulin injections. If you reach that point I hope your furkid has the same reaction.
I enjoyed the Pet Diary awited74. Thanks for the chuckle.

Yeah, cats and dogs see things differently. GREAT Christmas cats!
I dunno, we'll have to see, he's just about the best natured of the bunch and low-key...today will be the test. He has to fast tonight for blood sugar test tomorrow/today; first shot will be this afternoon.
He hates his vitamins (for anemia, that's how bad the fleas were!). Was hoping he'd like the chewables, but no...having to go with the staining liquid form.
