Well, so much for the protection of the refineries that was supposed to be happening. ![]()
Guess we all need to be prepared for as little driving as possible.

I think our roads are going to look more like the vehicles sizes you see in Europe. Smaller fewer SUV.

Or we'll have to go back to riding horses in TX. ![]()
Lots of bicycles here and some roads have special lanes for them on the right side. But Houston is so spread out, you won't get far riding a bike...and will need showering facilities when you reach your destination!

When we had the last gas price hit there had been a big fight going on about the cost and ridership on light rail line that had been running about one year. That fight died when a lot of downtown workers found they liked leaving the car in the train parking lot. They also found riding the train was cheaper then paying to park downtown. Hope this generates enough support to build the other lines.

We're not quite that bad yet, RC. Over the weekend I saw $3.299 but this morning the sign showed $3.189. Thank goodness we bought our Camry hybrid back in 2008. 40 mpg looks better and better.

Prices were $3.30 but they just did their typical Thurs price hike to $3.50/gal. ![]()
For the past couple years I've been hearing about Volkswagen coming out with a $600 car getting 258 mpg as can be read here. And every time the gas prices skyrocket I get another email pointing out this car.
Seems indeed it is a rumor and the price will be closer to $25,000 if it every comes out in the US.
Another case of, if it's too good to be true it usually is. ![]()

I agree and just looks like a go-kart with a body. You might as well hang it up in a crash and wonder what the wind would do to it in weighing only 650 lbs? No thanks too. ![]()

$3.27 yesterday.
And the only way small cars will work in the US is if everyone has them. When I see a Smart-For-One around Houston, I cringe! That thing would fit inside my car. No, thanks!

LOL, Shoe. Just coming to post this! The bottom is hard to read but it says something like "Home refinancing (availble) to help with Gas purchase."
This one is larger.

I bought gas Tuesday $3.39
I bought gas Wednesday $3.49
I bought gas Thursday $3.59
My wife and I decided to top off the tank when it gets down to 3/4s of a tank. And even then I spend between $17 - $19.

RCMG if you quit buying gas it would quit going up every day. j/k It is 3.44 to 3.50 here. Hope they enjoy their profits because this will cause many people to cut back and will cause damage to the economy. If you spend it on gas you do not have it to spend else where. If people delay shopping trips to save on buying gas that may be the purchase of an item that keeps a company from making a profit.
I heard a story on the radio the middle man dealers were taking a beating because the prices were changing so fast at wholesale they would think they had a profit on a sell to a station that turns into a loss by the time they can deliver the gas.

Gas prices are holding fairly steady here at around $3.299 per gallon. We wish we still owned our big, diesel-pusher motorhome, but we are also glad that we don't have to feed it. It had a 100 gallon tank and got 9 to 9 1/2 mpg. Not bad for pushing over 33,000 lbs. down the highway....but still would be a budget breaker at today's prices. I think diesel is around $3.659 per gallon around here.

If the price of gas was tied to how often I bought it I would be paid to not buy gas.![]()
Are the increases in gas related to what could happen because of the events in these other countries, or because of what has happened? Because I haven't heard of any specific reasons why the oil prices are going up. Maybe I missed something that was stated in the many news broadcasts I have missed. I guess civil unrest is as good of an excues to raise prices as any.![]()

I think most of it is speculation driving up the price now. The last time speculators drove the price up on the futures market until a few could not make their margin calls on their losses. That is why it crashed so fast. When the market changes directions it can be bad news if you are on the wrong side. At the tops and the bottoms it like just like playing poker.
The commodity markets are great when the regular crowd is playing. It provides a market. The problem comes when more people want to get in on the action. That drives the the price up or down faster then normal until nobody believes it can continue in that direction and the game collapses. It then moves too fast in the other direction until the players get out.
The price increases are just guessing the oil world will fall apart. If it does we will rember this time as cheap gas. If not it will crash like the last time. It may crash again but they are not finding as much as we are using. The OPEC reserves are over stated. As China starts using more and more like we and the west do the price will go up.

Actually yes and no. There was an over supply before things started falling apart. There were oil tankers sitting off shore full with the hope to get a better price as the economy picked up.
The problem is if the price drops to much many wells are no longer profitable.
It is begin suggested Iran is stirring the pot to make up for the cost of sanctions.

I heard some OPEC nations are talking about increasing oil output to lower the price of gas. Not holding my breath because today gas is up another dime here.

Is that bottom one supposed to be 3.99?
I paid $3.35 last night, so looks like we've almost caught up. ![]()

Nope, that Speedway slot around here means "16 oz. coffee 99 cents"
I paid $3.33 yesterday on the far Southside of Indy, a veritable bargain.
Other places were 3.57-3.65.

$3.31 yesterday in our area, but I hear they've gone up a lot since then.
