Intersting that this really has made the news that much. If this were a Windows virus it would be all over the news.

I know, and that has always bothered me. But it's political, and the Inventor of the Internet is on their Board.
Apple has always managed to keep the press under their thumb. With more users now because of iPads, things may be changing!
I was researching the upcoming OSX, Mountain Lion, and I don't recall them having any kind of protection before, but this sure LOOKS like A/V in disguise?

Macs DO get virus' it's just that most virus' are written for PCs because Windows is the dominate OS in the world, so to do as much damage as they can, they write the code to infect the most machines as possible

I just find it amusing when I talk to our customer who ask if our software works on Mac and I have to tell them no. They then ask why not and procede to lecture me on how much better and safer a Mac is since they don't get viruses. I then have to tell them, if you were writing a virus, would you try to get 90+% of computer or 7% of computers infected.

First and foremost their are no current viruses for a Mac not MAC the later is what every computer uses MAC Address ,all computers can get Trojans and Malware big difference
the one in the article requires you to put in your password to install the fake Flash player which does not come on a Mac you have to install it. The Java exploit only affects those that don't keep their computers updated or have auto open on download.

Most Windows viruses also require that the user stupidly allow the virus to infect the PC. Unfortunately, they're getting better at faking legitimate software.
So far MSE has kept my PC safe but as I stated above LInux,Mac and Windows are all subject to Trojans and some form of malware be smart go to the developers website before you give it permission and if you did not ask for a download by all means don't accept or open it. Apple released an update for those that think they are infected so far out of all my friends none were.
