Howdy! 66 now with distant thunder...expecting a lot of rain. 86? Wow, that's higher than here!

We had some very interesting weather over the weekend here in Montana. Of course, nothing unusual, just muliple changes. It was warm and sunshine on Saturday. Yesterday we went up to the mountains, picniced, and then waited for a snowstorm to finish before the kids saddled up to head out to the Ringing Rocks. It was about an hour of sunshine and warmth. As the kids headed out it started to snow again. 4 hours later as the kids got back it was warm again. Headed home about 9pm. Hit beautiful roads on the way home, then snow, then good again. 3 hours of driving that alternated the whole way home. Wet and cool this morning.

I have family that lives in and around Woodward, OK that was hit by a major tornado early Sunday morning. Got word that all family members are safe and no damage. Not so lucky for the rest of the town as over 80 houses and 13 businesses were destroyed and at least 5 folks were killed. Awful early in the year for these types of storms. We had about 3/4" of rain yesterday in Frisco. Everything is green around here and all the lakes and ponds are at their limits.

Yeah, I too am glad your family is ok OUfan. I'm not sure it was Woodward but saw a story on the news where the emergency/tornado warning sirens weren't working because a lightening strike may have hit the system from a quick previous storm. Sad, and what are you going to do? 113 tornados reported across the US over the weekend which is unbelievable. ![]()
Luckily the storms missed us and even the thunderstorms predicted yesterday never materialized. Cooler weather has rolled in again and back to highs in the low 60's instead of high 70's.

Woodward is about 100 miles west, north west of OKC, not a big town by any stretch of the imagination. mostly farming

Uni - it was Woodward that had the Tornado Sirens that were not working. They (apparently) were knocked offline by lightning, earlier in the day. That being said, the fatalities were all in mobile homes. This storm hit around midnight. Regardless - if I lived in manufactured housing, I'd have a NOAA weather alert radio. Life is too precious. In fact, if I lived in North Texas, OK, KS, MO or NE, I'd have one, no matter what sort of structure that I lived in. Just sad.......
Being 5 miles SW of Woodward, where those first fatalities were at, may not even had a siren, nearby.
THE TORNADO DEVELOPED APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES NORTHEAST OF ARNETT AND
MOVED NORTHEAST. SIX STRUCTURES WERE DAMAGED AS THE TORNADO MOVED
TOWARD THE WOODWARD COUNTY LINE. ONLY MINOR DAMAGE... DOWNED TREES
AND POWER POLES/LINES... WAS SEEN AS THE TORNADO MOVED OVER MAINLY
RURAL PORTIONS OF WOODWARD COUNTY. AT APPROXIMATELY 1212 AM... THE
TORNADO STRUCK TWO MOBILE HOMES 5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF WOODWARD. THE
DAMAGE HERE WAS DETERMINED TO BE EF-2 IN INTENSITY... WHICH ALSO
RESULTED IN 3 FATALITIES. THE HEAVIEST DAMAGE... RATED EF-3... WAS
REPORTED AS THE TORNADO ENTERED THE SOUTHWEST SIDES OF WOODWARD
AROUND 1218 AM. SEVERAL HOME AND BUSINESSES WERE HEAVILY DAMAGED AS
THE TORNADO CONTINUED NORTHEAST. SEVERAL MORE MOBILE HOMES WERE
DESTROYED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF WOODWARD... WHICH RESULTED IN 3
ADDITIONAL FATALITIES. THE TORNADO FINALLY EXITED THE CITY OF
WOODWARD AT APPROXIMATELY 1223 AM... EVENTUALLY DISSIPATING
APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES NORTH OF WOODWARD AT 1227 AM.
THIS TORNADO INFORMATION SHOULD STILL BE CONSIDERED PRELIMINARY AS
WE CONTINUE TO LOOK OVER INFORMATION.

I thought that was Woodward where the sirens failed. I remember seeing the mayor who was standing in front of the devastation and was just dazed/speechless about the loss of life/property. ![]()

Welcome to the Weather! ![]()
Glad nobody was hurt on the forum. We're back to bright sun today after the heavy rain. 77 now with a predicted high of 80. Still 60's a night, but had to turn the heater back on last night.
I like that, jfw, I WANT WARM WEATHER, LOL (like my, I HATE WINTER!). Good one!

The Mayor of Woodward was (understandably)on the verge of tears.
I saw a map on facebook, from a meterologist that had an area of OK, KS and NE highlighted and although I forget what the term was, it denoted an area where storms could go from nothing on the radar to tornadic, in less than an hour. Woodward was in that area.
Some scoffed at the Storm Prediction Center giving 24 hour notice of a tornado outbreak. I applaud them! I also "like" Dr. Greg Forbes on FB - his TORCon indecies were very high for that area, too. I do believe that things moved slower than expected and that most felt that the storms would start much earlier in the day than they did. Nighttime tornadoes are BAD.

Not much you can do to predict where a tornado will hit, unlike a hurricane. ![]()
We had one in our area go down the highway and never made the news! It took some roofs off and blew glass out of buildings, but nothing major. That was too close for comfort and NO warning!

Depending on where you live in TX, it's nearly impossible for an under ground shelter as I found out when I moved here. However, when the wife and I finally get into a house, I'm looking really hard at a safe room for our closet. Just need to figure out how expensive and how to go about paying for it.

So much for the nice, sunny, warm weather here. Was almost 80 yesterday and now 43 with cold rain mid-day. Nasty and no way we are going to reach 56 today as the forecast says. I'm probably going to pay for not mowing the high grass when warm/dry out.

We got pretty much the same weather here also, Uni. When I took the pooch out for his final draining around 1:20 AM the sky was clear....no wind at all.....and the temperature dropped to an overnight low of 32 degrees. Definitely too chilly to put any tomato plants in the ground.

WOW! A low of 32 degrees the morning of the 21st and now, on the 25th, we are forecasted to hit a high of 92 this afternoon. Was the human body built for this?

Just read that April will go down in the books as being cooler than this past March, only one other time in 142 years of record keeping in Chicago has this happened.
Saw on the temperature map that the whole mid section of the country from Texas to North Dakota will be in the 80's and 90's. We're stuck in the 50's here and Saturday is supposed to be in the upper 40's with showers, no warm weather in sight through the middle of next week.

But it's a dry heat! Yecch!
At high noon, yesterday, the air temperature in Las Vegas was 91 degrees. The dewpoint was -21. That 112 degree differential between dry and wet bulb readings, meant that the relative humidity was (barely) one percent!
My sinuses hurt just thinking about it! In 1996, from May 10th to the 14th, I was in LV. One of those day it got to 112. I'm not sure what the DP and RH were but my sinuses dried out in less than 24 hours and were very painful. You also got static electricity shocks on every door. Glad that I am not in LV, lol.

My wife loves that dry air/heat. Has sinus problems/headaches and every time she goes to SD the problems disappear.
Beautiful weather pattern here with full sun, high 70's during the day, low humidity, and cool nights. But the nights could be a little warmer since can't even leave the windows open since house cools down too much.
Nice we'll have out 1st dry weekend in a while since rains don't start again until Mon.

After the cold front went through, it got REALLY mild. I decided to barely crack the windows, last night to let some fresh air in. Man, I FROZE! Got down to 50 or so.
