Read that with the lack of heavy snow pack, spring flooding shouldn't be an issue this year. Good news for those in the problem areas.
Real bad news for most of American farmers (and us), we can probably start preparing for higher food prices this summer/fall/winter as the yields will be down and prices up w/o that snow pack.
70's this week and forecast all next week, if followed by 80's in April, are a forewarning of a real hot summer here in metro Detroit. ![]()

I was thinking about a real hot summer here in Detroit. My thinking is that we could have more days of 100 degree temps. Although forecasters were reporting this winter would be one of the worst ones we have ever had/ Sp based pm their accuracy all we can really do is wait and see. IMO

1987 we had 70's in April and had a fairly hot summer that year. In 1988 we got 70's in march, 80's in April and that summer we had 21 straight days above 90° (never below 70° for the low) for the high w/a near the end high of 104° for the 21 day streak. ![]()

Enjoy! ![]()
Now you know why I complain when it gets cold here!
Unfortunately, I don't think your cold could kill our roaches, they (allegedly) survived the Ice Age, unchanged. ![]()

I am enjoying this weather but it is really weird walking around in short sleeved shirts in March. This is what Spd has gotten to experience all those years. We are having temps in the 70s and almost 80 next week. Then again we still have April to deal with and get past. If any of those Texas flying roaches show up hopefully they will get taken out by the Michigan cold. But hopefully we won't see anymore MI cold until next winter.

We'll also probably see additional food price hikes since more expensive herbicides/insecticides will need to be applied to crops this year. With a mild winter less weed seeds and insect eggs/larvae are frozen/destroyed. As if food prices aren't high enough and don't ever remember them being this high the last time I was at the grocery.
Real bad lightening/thunder/hail storms rolled through here about dark. Also tornado warning for a 3 county area I'm in. Luckily the high winds missed us but pretty eerie hearing the tornado warning sirens in the distance. Power went off for just a few secs and nice it came right back on.

You can pretty much blame the current grocery prices on the high cost of fuel.
Another day in the low 80's yesterday, I think 4 or 5 in a row now, and we expect another 2 or 3 days of warm temps until it cools down later this week. Could use some rain since we've only had a little over half an inch, with most of it falling at the start of the month. All the trees and bushes are in full bloom and a hard freeze now would certainly cause damage, our average low temp for this time is 30 and we've had frost as late as May.

The last two days were beautiful, close to 70. That all changed this morning when I woke up to more snow.

My sister is up from Kingman, AZ for a week and she's all messed with this opposite weather. She was talking to her husband yesterday (who stayed behind) and they had almost an inch of snow Saturday.

This week will be way, way above normal too. Low 80's through Wednesday. I do see a cooldown coming, this upcoming weekend. Instead of temps 30+ degrees above normal, they will only be 15 degrees above normal, lol. This is still winter, too. ![]()

Metrological spring started March 1st and astronomical (calendar) spring starts tomorrow, so you're half right, lol.
Saw a couple of people in the neighborhood packing away their snowblowers yesterday, might be a mistake, I'll keep mine at the ready for a few more weeks.

It's supposed to cool WAY down toward the end of next week - with a high near 50. Fifty! Heaven forbid, I may have to wear a jacket. In March. How novel!
Indianapolis's high tomorrow? 85. 85 is the normal high in August. At Summer's peak.

Hi DC, I'm fine thanks, and yourself/PA? It's nice I'm taking a break from being a slave to my wood stove, still have 3 cords of split firewood left, and my electric bill just dropped $70/month! ![]()
Now I've seen a few years when we skipped Spring and went straight into Summer from Winter, but never going from Fall to Spring w/no Winter. Weird? I wouldn't worry about it since it's just the predictions for "Armageddon - End of the World 2012" coming true!
Winter over? I remember some years ago when we got 10" of snow on April 10th! I was down in Miami visiting my brother and my wife was stuck up here. Wow, was she ticked! LOL, but it melted/gone in 2 days.

We broke the record by +6 degrees today at 84. Didn't even seem that warm since humidity was extremely low at 36%. Location where I'm at was the warmest and coldest in the state today with 51 early this morning.
Hate to say it but I better mow grass tomorrow. If we get 3 days of thunderstorms, rain and warm temps it may get too high to cut. Don't even want to start the weekly mowing this early because it seems as soon as you start mowing the faster grass grows.

Another day of record warm temps, I think 8 in a row now, could use some rain since we've had hardly any in the last couple of weeks.
Here's an article from our local paper, looks like Accuweather is admitting they really screwed up last winter's forecast. Now they're thinking the debris from the Japan tsunami floating in the Pacific is causing the unusual warm weather......Uh OK.

About the same here jfw but maybe not so many straight record days. Pretty sad the warm temps was/is heck on the spring bulbed flowers. Crocus died within a week and many of the yellow daffodils only lasted about 5 days. White smaller later-blooming daffodils are now up and probably won't last long either. All these bulbed flowers like cool/wet conditions.
Lame excuse the tsunami debris is causing this warm spell and don't know why they can't just admit they were wrong?
Last night I watched a new Nova/National Geographic special on PBS called "Extreme Ice". Pretty frightening how fast the glaciers are receding and polar ice caps are melting. ![]()
Not too happy about this warm spell waking up the biting/stinging insects which are getting in the house. Killed about 4 wasps in the living/bedroom the past couple days. Also saw a huge Wolf Spider (2 1/2"-3" dia) on my basement floor a couple days ago. Tried to get him to crawl on a newspaper I held in front of him to throw outside and he just ran back into some stuff where I reach into. Just great. Yesterday I trapped him under a big glass jar, slid a thin piece of cardboard under him, and turned him loose under the side porch I don't use. I don't kill spiders since they prey on other insects and this thing was big enough to take down a mouse. ![]()
83 here now which ties the record and we'll break it before the day is up. Thunderstorms tomorrow and hope they aren't severe with all this warm weather.

Looks like our streak of 80+ degree weather has come to an end, been raining much of the day with temps only in the 60's. Just saw it's supposed to get down to the upper 30's on Sunday night and only upper 40's for a high on Monday, normal for this time of year, but after the summer weather we've had this past week that going to be a shocker.

Yeah......we know how you folks with all the rain are feeling. We've had about 5 straight days of rain. Clouds just moved out within the last hour or two. Hope they stay away for a while. We may have to use an old fashioned sickle to cut the grass before hitting it with the mower.

They're blaming all the rain and warmer-than-usual weather for the extreme allergies here, and I think they're right! Things started blooming too early, and taking my daily meds isn't working. Impossible to sleep with blocked nasal pasages and a CPAP! Miss being outside and working in the yard, but just can't do it. ![]()

Everything here is just covered with a coating of yellow pollen. Luckily I don't have allergies real bad but have been sneezing some. Also have to use eye drops constantly to wash the pollen/dust it out of my eyes.
This sure isn't good news and hope the freeze or frost doesn't kill everything. ![]()

No frost expected here tonight, the NE wind off Lake Michigan should keep temps in the upper 30's. Learned my lesson on planting too early on more than one occasion, we now wait till around the Memorial Day weekend.
