Yep, Freezing Fog is a strange one but saw it happening as the fog settled on everything turning to more ice.
Thanks for the cyber warmth and finally starting to thaw at 34.
Now they have changed the high today to 38! Why do they even forecast ahead of time since they change the forecast every couple hours depending what the temp is?? Fat chance of seeing any sun today and gloomy/cloudy as can be.

Gone thru freezing fog many times when driving OTR (and here in MI too), really nasty, everything starts freezing up slowly as it's fog and not freezing rain.
Last OTR one, I remember driving East just West of Grand Island, NE, decided that Bosselman's truck stop in GI was going to be home for the night, even though I had a couple more hours to drive. I wasn't gonna keep going, as I-80 was starting to ice up when I got off. ![]()
Calling for 37°/32°, but only 28° right now, w/rain and snow coming tonite, the rain might turn out to be freezing rain, then snow over it. arrggh ![]()

You just learn to do it in the traditional snow states, now stretching down to Florida, Georgia. Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. ![]()
Have driven over 25 miles of ice from a quick storm in Wyoming in a tractor trailer on I-80, you just slow to 25 and stay a 1/2 mile apart if sparse traffic (as it was that day).
About 50 miles of ice on I-40 at the 16 mile mark in Texas all the way into Amarillo. Cars were travelling faster than 25 (would break traction at 28) in the left lane until 1 car did a 360° turn (in the left lane) and then all the cars then fell into the right lane doing 25. ![]()

Yeah Uni, welcome to the tricky world of weather-casting, lol. When in high school, I very much considered a meteorology degree and also looking at one of the Armed services in the same field (but then it dawned on me, my math skills were too lacking,
). I loved doing forecasts but the Earth science teacher warned me about the traps of picking one forecast model over another. Take them all into consideration. And that's what happened Sunday. Same thing here - one forecaster called for an afternoon high of 50, while one said 40 and others between. It was only 38 @ 4 PM!
What I think happened was a warm front slowed down more than any of the models had predicted plus there was snow on the ground which made it harder to warm up, the skies did not clear like they had hoped and it remained very foggy. It did get into the 50's but after the squall line went through.
Now (11 AM) it is raining again and the temp has dropeed 6 degrees from 51, at 9 AM and 9 degrees since the high of 54 @ 7 AM. No thunder last night, just hard rain / wind. We are under a wind advisory but they don't seem too strong, yet. 23 mph w/gusts to 33. They are calling for 5-10 more mph than that.
Freezing fog is bad. I have also seen plain frost freeze up on bridges, just like that.

Interesting Dave and they should give you a set of dice with a meteorology degree. LOL.
Cold front is just a little further behind than you guys in Indy. 59 here right now but by 6pm it will be in the 30's and by midnight 29. Luv those quick 30 degree drops in temperature. ![]()
Thought about trying to get some things done outside today since all the snow/ice is gone. No way since wind is blowing 20-25mph with gusts of 45-50mph. Plus the sun just disappeared and looks like thunderstorms may be moving in real quick.
It's really strange to see all the grass still green here. Stayed green all summer because of record rainfall and now it hasn't been cold enough to send it into the dormant stage.
At least it won't be below freezing during the days this week.

My son-in-law's hopes for the ground to freeze to get rid of bugs and harden the mud may not happen. Been an unusual winter, to say the least. Guess that all is being saved up for the Super Bowl, in Indy, in less than two weeks?
With the way that this winter has been going, they may be able to open the roof or that big window.
Speaking of that, Cowboys Stadium and Lucas Oil Sadium, opened about the same time. From what I've read, Cowboy's Stadium has only had the roof opened for twice for events, while Lucas Oil's has been open for 28!
That sounds odd and maybe not be too accurate but Lucas Oil's will be opened if the temp is 50 or higher and dependent on winds and other factors.....

100% rain today, and 2" in 2 hrs. here! Tornado warnings, flooding, trees and power down in the area--a repeat of a few weeks ago. Local news stations are doing nothing but weather.
Looks like Austin got a lot of flooding, and Dallas has had over 4"?
But we're at 73 right now!

The mild temps.down there are certainly contributing to the violent weather. The relatively mild weather up here has melted most of the 6 inches of snow we got in last week's storm. No big storms or artic blasts in the forcast for the next week and considering the last two weeks of Jan. and the first two weeks of Feb. are our dead of winter, I'm not complaining.

Those heavy rains which hit Texas will be hitting us tomorrow and calling for a couple inches of rain.
33 here right now and a nasty mix of sleet, rain and freezing rain is coming down.
About dusk I decided to put a new 8'x10' HD brown poly-tarp over the the front half of my Jeep since the last ice storm had everything frozen solid. Thought as soon as I was done tying it down it sure was getting cold and my hands were freezing. Sleet (little frozen ball of snow/ice) started falling and I had finished just in time.
Things are not looking good for the morning rush hour Thurs. ![]()

What a difference a year makes, last year at this time our third worst blizzard in history was winding up, 60+ mph winds, lightning and hail and when it was over almost 22 inches of snow had fallen with drifts 5 - 10 feet high. Today, sunny and mid 40's with zero snow on the ground.

Well, I can live with 6 more weeks of winter if it continues like the winter we've been having so far. ![]()
For months we've been having 5-6 days of rain per week and maybe one partial day of sun. Now it's reversed for this week where we'll have 1 day of rain tomorrow and then partially sunny days all week. All that lovely tshirt weather we've been having here in montana changed on monday. Now we're back to February weather, between 0 and 25 degrees and SNOW. fun fun fun. Semi jacked on the highway yesterday, traffic backed up for 3 hours. I drove 55 yesterday while everyone whipped around me....luckily they all made it at least as far as I went on the highway but I was expecting any one of them to be lying in a ditch somewhere....people seem to forget that while we have fairly open highways, you still need to slow down when there's ice and snow.

You got that right Dave! LOL.

But I'm sure most people would rather see this weather scenario. LOL.

Ah, summertime and can't wait! ![]()
We got about 1 1/2" of snow this morning and the timing couldn't have been worse. Right at rush hour and driving was a mess. Agree with Taylarie and it's beyond me why people don't realize they have to slow down during slick winter road conditions. We have three 4WD Jeeps but aren't like those crazy drivers who have 4WD SUV's and just think they can blow by everybody because they have 4WD. On real slick roads/ice they aren't any better than 2WD.
They said last night on the weather news the snow was going to melt today since it will get clear up to 34. Not going to happen with no sun and now they say the high today will be only 31. Will probably melt tomorrow but we're headed into some colder winter weather this weekend. At least they aren't calling for much snow accumulation.

We received a mere dusting this morning. That slight amount, might be enough to push Indy over 7 total inches, for the year!
The snow must have intensified, East of us as it was only heavy for an hour. It was all gone (melted) by 2 PM, here. More light snow chances Friday and Monday and a COLD weekend. Highs in the 20's.

We're home. A week long trip to Colorado Springs to visit family. My wife just turned 76 on the 3rd of Feb. and, strangely enough, her brother's birthday is on the same day....but 6 years younger.
We moved quickly down I-70. It's 75 mph speed limit now. The evening of the day we arrived it started to snow. On the south side of the Springs we got just a few flurries. Not measurable. 10 miles north they got 6 to 12 inches. Closer to Denver the TV weather people reported snow depths of 50 to 55 inches....FROM JUST ONE STORM! So when we headed back east toward home last Monday we traveled old U.S. 50 from Pueblo and had a very smooth run. Two lane....but all good condition. Stopped over a couple of nights at my wife's cousins home in Newton, Kansas before making the last jump to the Kansas City, MO area.
Now we are here at home awaiting a predicted storm coming in from the northwest late Sunday night. Our temperature right now is 13.8 degrees F and falling. Expected low by morning will be approx. 5 degrees. It's gonna be a cold walk for Alfie and me in the morning. Hope the wind dies down.

Coldest weather of the season this weekend and single digits tonight. Kind of strange weather pattern the past month and cold every weekend while warm-ups during the week.
Had to drag Charlie in early this morning when only 15. Know he can take it, loves the cold weather, and was sleeping on his bed with his nose covered by his tail like a husky. But still brought him in for his own good.

We've been getting lots of rain, so hope this will continue all year and we can get back to normal. Almost miss not being able to keep a clean car because of daily 3PM rain, LOL!
Some people further north of Houston got sleet yesterday, but I don't think it was freezing up there? We are supposed to have 72 as a high tomorrow. Sun is bright now and finally, the rain has stopped.

You should see the bulbed flowers vegetation coming up here and unbelievable for mid-Feb. Species/height: Daffodils (4"-6"), Tulips (3"-5"), Crocus (2"-3"), Amaryllis (Belladonna Lily/Naked Lady, 2"), etc.. And I wouldn't doubt the Crocus will be in bloom by next week. This vegetation can take a hard freeze for a little while but not for an extended period. But typically a hard freeze will kill the flowers rather quickly if they're in bloom.
I bet the orchard/fruit tree owners are going nuts with this mild weather we're having too. If the fruit trees are in bloom during even a heavy frost the success of fruit production is diminished greatly.
Can't believe we've had almost a foot of snow (11.9") this year and it seems like nothing. Mainly because it only comes in dustings or 1"-2" at a time. Last Winter we had 24" of snow and that will be hard one to forget.
But it has been super nice for being outside lately, although a little cool, and seems like it will continue for a while longer.

Warmest winter in Indy, since 2002 and 11th warmest ever. Maybe some rain changing to snow, late Thursday.
The Indiana State HS basketball sectionals are coming up and long time residents remember one year (1966?) when folks got stranded after the sectional finals, due to a late season snowstorm.

Severe Weather Possible Friday!
Looks like weather could bedicey, Friday and Friday Night. A guy with the Weather Channel has made his TORCON forecast for Friday and some areas of Kentucky are a 7. That means that there is a 70% chance of a tornado within 30 miles of a single spot. The Southern Indiana half of Indiana is a 3-4, which still means (to me) a 100% chance of storms and a 3 in 10 chance of tornadoes within 30 miles. Not good.
One Accuweather guy was comparing this setup to April 3, 1974. Kinda sensationalist.
