I cannot believe you can't get what you want, no wonder people build their own.

I know nothing about Vista and don't want to know either. When I get ready for my next computer, it will be built for me with only the stuff I want on it, not what the computer companies think I should have and yes, my XP Pro WILL be put on there.
I don't know what you are going to do Spd and frankly, I don't really know the diiferences between the 32 bit or 64 bit stuff at all, but a close friend, one who has been on the techie end of things for many years and who helped teach me much that I know today, he just bought 2 computers and was sorry he didn't stick with XP.
He and others I have talked to said Vista basic is one OS to stay away from. If you must have Vista, at least go premium.
But if the techie type people are having issues with Vista, and I'm not saying they all are, but it leads me to wonder just what kind of problems someone like myself might have down the road. I'm just not that brave enough to try it.

By the way, I had heard that 2 manufacturers, Dell was one and I'm not sure, but thought HP was the other one (hogrunr, comment?), that these 2 were offering you the choice of Vista or XP if your ordered your PC online. Don't know if the offer was limited or what. Someone had posted a link to this on another forum I belong too. I'll see if I can dig up their post from earlier this year.

Look at the second link, the build your own, doesn't look to be slower processors on that list to me, but then again, (DISCLAIMER!!) I am not a geek! 
I think what I looked at was the Inspiron Desktops. I guess the XPS is the newer system from Dell? That doesn't look to be offered with XP at all. Oh well, sorry about that.

Egads, those prices on the XPS models, definitely out of my range too!

Yeah, my laptop is like the first old XPS model, but without the fancy trim, and a little less power. I wanted that one 2 years ago (my need for speed), but just couldn't see paying that much; and I'm not a gamer, so moot point. Now the newer models equivalent to mine have the numeric keypad! Mine doesn't.
