This week is finally over. There were some great posts in the last WOTT 205 thread. Hope this week is as much fun.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and week doing housework, yardwork or just vegging out in front of the tub.

Gee SKP, you're on the ball and I forgot it was Friday or I would have started the new WOTT thread instead of posting it here. Maybe I'll just copy/paste it below.

That is real sad for the wildlife/environment that ship is going to break up on that New Zealand reef and release all that diesel fuel/oil. I watched the video and they better try to get some of it pumped out quick.
My 92 year old step-dad was stationed in New Zealand for a while as a Merchant Mariner during WWII and has always said what a beautiful county it is. I had to ask him exactly what the US Merchant Marine is/was and it's a "civilian auxiliary" of the US Navy. While he was considered a civilian it's nice he has veteran status which is deserved since the merchant mariners did risk their lives in traveling the seas while supporting the war effort.
Phil, I wish your wife the best on her cataract surgery. LOL she may leave you since she'll now be able to see you! Know I've mentioned before I've had cataract surgery on both eyes. Have a close up/reading lens implanted in the left eye and long distance lens in the right eye. While it took almost a year to adjust to the monovision I love it and don't have to wear glasses for anything. My vision is better than 20/20 and it's nice once you have cataract surgery you'll never need it again.
Spd, I too love the moonlight from the full moon. I was outside the other night and while getting foggy the moonlight was super bright. The owls were going nuts calling and getting ready for their Winter mating season. Two Great Horned Owls starting calling to each other and then a not so bright Screech Owl joined in. He quickly shut up when a 3rd Great Horned Owl came in fairly close and don't believe you'd want to be in the middle of fracas of 3 of the "Lions of the Bird World".

Yes you can definitely see Jupiter with the naked eye. Right now, except for the moon, it is the brightest object in the night time sky. It is 8:13 PM CDT and Jupiter is just now rising in the eastern sky.....ENE. The moon has been rising later each evening so I imagine the contest for domination is over for now between the two. If you go out around midnight and look to the east you'll see the constellation Orion rising in the east. On a really dark night with clear sky you can see its nebula but even a simple telescope give a much clearer view of the nebula.....born of an ancient supernova and a well known star nursery. I wanted so badly to see the super nova that occurred earlier this month. But it was located in the handle of the Big Dipper(but far beyond it of course) which was setting in the NW too early this time of year and I could barely make out the main stars what with all the light pollution around the city environs. So I did not have my wish granted. Every night, when I take Alfie our for his last draining before bedtime, I examine the sky and all its beauty. I would buy a really good telescope and install it on a semi-permanent mount but I fear that, at my age, I would not get sufficient return on my investment. sigh.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Hey, once you reach a certain age any return is a good return on investment.
Besides, it would be a good hobby to involve/pass on to one of the grandkids.

Yeah.....sharing would be good....except for one problem. Only three of our nine grandchildren are living close enough for us to have much contact with them. The rest are all working or in college and are scattered from Connecticut to Texas and all busy, busy, busy with their lives. Of the three still nearby.....one is working full time and going to school to become an accountant. Another is a junior in high school and deep into music (jazz) and doing a little composing. Got a steady girlfriend. Not much time for grandpa and grandma. And the 3rd one....the youngest....is 13 and a competitive swimmer. Also running cross-country.....so along with his school work he's super busy too. Like the Decorah, IA eagles.....the family is all gone out on their own and that leaves mom/grandma and dad/grandpa to fend for themselves. We enjoy doing that too. But at 75 I don't think raising another three kids is in the works.

That's sad, but how our society is today...relatives no longer live and/or stay in the same town. I wish I wrote down all the stories my grandparents told me as a kid, but at the time I just thought they were old people with silly memories.
That would be great if young people could figure this out before they get older, spend times with the past generations, and they're more fun than parents! ![]()

LOL Spd, and a real funny video clip/set-up. Thought your story was really good too OUfan as long as the people didn't get hurt too bad. Didn't look like they did. They said the wrecking ball operator tried to stop it. Wonder how in the world how?? ![]()

Here's a pretty sad story where almost 75 Lions, Tigers, Cougars, Cheetahs, Wolves, Grizzly Bear(s) and Black Bear(s) are on the loose near Zanesville, Ohio (60 miles due E of Columbus) and orders are to shoot to kill. ![]()

Evidently they were all turned loose and they found the exotic animal farm owner dead with cause not mentioned. To make matters worse severe thunderstorms are rolling through Ohio right now which will probably make the animals even more panicked.

I suspect foul play because it doesn't make sense for the owner to open all of the cages at one time. And when the police were asked if there were any marks indicating an attack by one of the animals. He replied with they were still waiting for autopsy results. You don't need autopsy results to see the result of an animal attack. IMO

Humanity at its best, SPD. I don't know if this is totally accurate but some figures I found show the slaughter is up to this:
Cops kill 18 tigers, 17 lions, 6 black bears, 3 mountain lions, 2 grizzly bears, 1 baboon, 1 wolf
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

This was a manhole in NYC and normally the ones I worked in were not this bad. I just thought you might enjoy what a underground crew deals with and what a fiber cable looks like.
