New week, new year, new thread!
So this past week I finally got my CHristmas present from my parents put in my backyard. A nice small wood buring pit. I hope to actually cook some ribs or a briskit on it either this weekend or next.

Sounds gooood!
A few days ago when it was cold about 5 hungry deer were about 50'-75' from the house. They were eating Honeysuckle leaves/vines along with Poison Ivy twigs/vines (yep, they luv em'). I thought more power to them and can't stand either one of those plants. Then one of the bolder does was real close and started eating my new rose bushes, thorns and all, to the ground. "Hey!", and started beating on the windows to scare them off. They saw/heard me and just slowly walked away.
Then I walked out the back door and there was 2 more deer in the backyard. They didn't take much alarm to me but didn't like the looks of that big black 125lb thing heading to the yard to take a pee. They ran/jumped quickly away with white tails flagging. Charlie just looked at them, as he was doing his thing, like "duh, more deer...". LOL.

Speaking of eating...or not....I've been fighting stomach flu this weekend. Oooooh. Such misery. Up all night last night with repeated visits to the porceline throne....for more than one reason. Finally, after 36 hours without food, my wife made me eat some soup today. Hope it stays down. I lost 4 lbs. in that time period. I can assure everyone...this is NOT the way to lose weight.
Still having Internet speed problems via wireless. Posted on that over there.

This is from the "Scout Report:"
12. Transportation Library Menu Collection
http://digital.library.northwestern.edu/transporta
To fly the friendly skies in the 1950s and 1960s across the continent (or
the Atlantic) was quite an experience. To say nothing of the possible
turbulence, the culinary offerings in flight could be quite outstanding. The late George M. Foster (an anthropologist and consultant) was there at the beginning of such pioneering commercial air travel. He collected hundreds of menus from his time on trains, planes, and cruise ships, and he gave them to Northwestern University in 1997. This digital collection from the Northwestern University Library allows users to look at these items in all of their glorious detail. After clicking on "View the Contents" visitors can make their way through menus from Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, United Airlines, and so on. First-time visitors should not miss the menu from a Chicago to Amsterdam flight on KLM that Mr. Foster took on June 21, 1979.

Over the past few days, I have seen two oddities that both involved the moon. On Friday night, I saw a moon dog. Basicaly a moon halo. I have seen that maybe once or twice, in my life. Then on Monday night, I saw a jet contrail only illuminated by moonlight. It looked very eery, much like a dim comet's tail. i do not recall ever seeing one, before. As it moved away, it dimmed to where it was no longer visible - which made sense as moonlight is much dimmer than sunlight.
Speaking of contrails - about 5 years ago, just about 10 minutes after sunset, I started seeing contrails. It was like there was 3, where none had been just seconds before, then 10, then 20 and finally over 60! And just as suddenly as they were there, they were gone. It must have been that the sun had sunk behind the horizon and the atmosphere magnified the rays, up in the air, like a spot light. I tried on other profoundly clear dusks and have never seen such a repeat.
EDIT - Moon dog. I used Wikipedia and looked up moon ring. It mentioned warm weather before a winter storm.
Well, we've had the warm weather

Y'know....folks who never look up sure miss a lot of beautiful things.
Years ago.....on one of our cross country jaunts in our RV.....we were camped in Utah and I saw a similar effect when the sun dropped below MY horizon and those beams of light were created by the mountain peaks in the distant range. It didn't last long. But it was spectacular.

My wife and I spent a week in Cornicopia, WI 18 years ago. Tha cabin was just off the beach on Siskiwit Bay and every night we would have a fire on the beach and lay there and watch the sky. There was no light polution so the view was amazing. Four consecutive nights we watched the Auroras. We saw multiple (at least 15 or 20) meteors a night as well as satellites going over. Being able to actually see the milky way was incredible.

Hey guys.....to change the subject a little.....
You know how Mozilla is always telling us that Google Tool Bar is not compatible with FF 9? I have this problem on my Dell laptop which is running 32 bit Windows 7. I had to import all of my bookmarks to the FireFox list because I can no longer access Google Toolbar.
OK.....BUT....why does Google Toolbar work just fine with FF 9 on my HP desktop which is running 64 bit Windows 7. Hmmmm? I have access to my GTB bookmarks and all the other features. Anyone got any ideas? I sure don't.

Could be the way the 64 bit system "virtualizes" the 32 bit enviroment for FF.
