Yes, it's been posted on the Wireless forum already.

Never been a AT&T wireless customer but I can understand the frustration. I'm a VZW and I'm grandfathered into my unlimited data. I got lucky and upgraded to unlimited before they went to a structured data plan.

That's the rub, the ATT customers were grandfathered as well, but now they're being throttled. Those on set data plans appear not to be.

But even though you are grandfathered into a VZW "unlimited data plan" is there really such a plan anymore? I just spoke with a VZW rep last week and they said there isn't.
Just like AT&T they are throttling back the top 5% of data users through their "Network Optimization" on the 3G unlimited plan. Believe they started this last Sept.
http://support.verizonwireless.com/information/dat
But it sounds like VZW is a lot more user friendly than AT&T in the way they throttle back these top data users. They supposedly go by congestion in an area rather than throttling back the phone/device altogether regardless of data traffic.
Guess if you don't fall into the top 5% of data users you wouldn't have to worry about this.

Think you're right about that Uni, whatever they're doing, they don't seem to have the same complaints.

You could do that, if you're a glutton for punishment...just make sure it's wav or mp3 format!
I can't stay asleep, the smallest noise wakes me up (and I can't get back to sleep), but after decades, light doesn't bother me. I'm in trouble.
Only my phone alarm gets my attention, or the cats banging the door or making noise for breakfast.

LOL, but probably not really all that funny because I can't sleep long either. I should probably throw the main breaker here overnight because everywhere there's media (TV's, computers, etc..) I'm drawn to it. All the candle type lights my wife still has on 24/7 in every window probably are not very good for sound sleep either.
And while we love our pets they're about half nocturnal here.

Best money I ever spent ...

This thing tracks your sleep cycle using a headband, and will wake you up at the point in the sleep cycle where it's easiest to awaken.

My problem is not staying asleep. Once I'm sleeping , I sleep. My problem is I can't sleep more than 3.5 to 4.5 hours a night, period, no matter what time I go to bed. I usually hit the hay between 1 and 2 am and get up between 5 and 6 am. If I stay in bed longer trying to sleep, I feel like I've got a hangover when I get up, not to mention the pain from being still to long.
on another topic:
Talk about cruel irony. My extended presidents day weekend starts and ends the same way. Saturday morning, I got to go in to the accountant to get my taxes done and Monday morning I get to go in and get a colonoscopy.

Only problem with that is that it would be well after when I'm supposed to be at work that it would determine the best time to wake me up.

I was interested in that product, but with my CPAP headgear, that band across the forehead is a no-go.
Doesn't it leave marks? It takes a good 2 hrs. for the marks on my forehead to disappear, so that means waking even earlier in order to be presentable to society. ![]()

The way the alarm works is this: You set it at the latest time you can get up, and then it will wake you up in a time period window before that where it's easiest to get up. The default window is 30 minutes, but it's adjustable. If you've gotten the proper amount of sleep, your cycle will usually present an easy-to-wake up point sometime within that 30 minute window, and it will begin the alarm at that time. (The alarms are quiet at first, and selectable from several soothing sounds, so it lulls you out of sleep).
If you haven't woken up by the set alarm time or if your cycle never presents an easy-wake opportunity, it will sound the alarm at the set alarm time regardless.
All sleep data is stored on an SD memory card which you can then upload to the website. It will ask you questions about your previous day, and correlate your sleep data against the answers. This helps you identify the things in your day that are interfering with your sleep at night.

Sounds great, if I can ever get off the CPAP. ![]()
IIRC, they also have a mobile version that stores data into a smartphone via an App.
I use something similar for BP and weight, with the Withings BP Monitor and Wi-Fi Scale. BP Monitor doesn't have an App for Android yet, but the Wi-Fi Scale does. I started using the scale with my Touch a few years back.
I'll be getting a new CPAP soon, one that has a smart card with (hopefully) an SD card instead of a *credit card*, so I can see my data. I'm a big believer in being able to analyze stats yourself!
--Off to another topic, I have had a *happy light* for years, maybe I can just get a digital timer and use that as a wake up light? It won't be gradual (non-dimable CFL), but it has the daylight (blue) spectrum that I love, compared to the soft white (yellow) spectrum that I hate. The Philips device I'm trying now is halogen (which I don't like for heat/energy reasons), and the spectrum if offputting.
The downside again with the Philips device is no battery backup, and y'all know about my constant power outages here! But I still have my white noise machine that has nature sounds, too, and it does have a battery backup! I could put that on a digital timer and use it as an alarm.
Know this is sounding Beverly-Hillbillish, but I'm in deep trouble here and need to find a solution for waking up gently, and staying awake. ![]()
My Moshi is a joke, as I have to scream at it, and half the time it responds incorrectly.

My wake up alarm jumps down off the bed around 4:00 AM and heads for the living room where he barks a few times....probably at the newspaper delivery guy. Then he finishes off the night in my recliner. At around 7:30 to 8:00 AM he comes into the bedroom....crawls under the bed....scratches his back on the mattress slats.....and then lays there and grumbles until dad gets up and gets dressed to take him for our morning walk. After the walk it's breakfast time followed by some catch or chasing his favorite squeaky ball. He has it down to a fine art. Tuesday the 21st is his 12th birthday.
Alfie thinks he is still a puppy. Always ready to play. But he tires more quickly these days. I can identify with that. This evening our oldest son and his wife came over with their 9 month old female Boxer. It was bedlam for a while as the two dogs played and played. Finally the Boxer began to grow somewhat tired of this persistent, 21 lb. Westie. Needless to say Alfie is presently zonked in the middle of the living room floor.
On another subject. I was just back in our computer room messing around with my wireless printer. When I had it do a search for available wireless routers....it came up with about 13 I.D.'s one of which was (I kid you not) "FBI Surveillance Van #674-5". Now I realize anyone could create any SSID they want for their router but why on earth would anyone use anything like that? I've never seen this one before. So....was it real or fake? Bizarre!

Yup, got four alarm clocks just like that. They go off at around 5:30 am. Starts with come in and jump on bed. sniff, sniff, sniff. Then jump off the bed. If that does not get the desiered response the shaking of the head (and with it jangling tags) begins.
Tell Alfie that Cosmo, Missy, Jack, and Jello says happy birthday, and not to party too hardy on Fat Tuesday.
As far as the SSID goes, yes you can make it anything you want. Now if FBI agents were as stupid as poloticians then I could see that being legit, otherwise no.

C.J., I saw a great line recently....."if your dog is overweight, YOU are not getting enough exercise." Thank goodness Alfie doesn't start working on me THAT early in the morning. I'm like SPD....if I go to bed with normal people I can't sleep. I'm usually up until at least 1:00 to 2:00 AM....sometimes 3:00 AM. So we usually arise around 8 to 9 AM. Alfie never barks at me....he just repeatedly grumbles at me from under the bed with his low pitched growl....about every 30 seconds.....until I give up and get going.
RE the FBI van SSID: Interestingly....one of my neighbors' white, panel van is gone from his driveway this morning.....and also the questionable SSID has disappeared. Hmmmmmm. I don't know anything about him....except that he mentioned that he works from his home.....presumably via his computer.
I walk the pooch at least twice a day and that keeps me in touch with the neighborhood. Many times this generates more questions than it answers.....if ya know what I mean. On the other hand it produces interesting information. For example....one of our older (yes even older than me) neighbors mentioned to me that his childhood playmate and close friend was Scotty Carpenter....who later became an astronaut. Then it came out that he was a 4th cousin to the famous film and broadway musical singer and actor.....Howard Keel.......if any of the rest of you are old enough to remember.
Unfortunately....like many of us....he did not keep touch with Carpenter as years passed.
I'm considering the purchase of a dual band range extender for my wireless router. I would install it at the opposite end of the house from where the router is located. I'm doing OK with my laptop on 5 gHz but I would like to increase the signal strength on that band for the benefit of my wife's iPad. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm eyeballing the Netgear unit which is supposed to set up very easily, automatically, with my existing Netgear N600 router.

As I've gotten older I find that I no longer dream very much. Don't know if that's a bad sign or not.....maybe just normal.
Today Alfie celebrated his 12th birthday with a visit to the doggy beauty parlor and some new squeaky toys from mom and dad. He looks really good for his age. It doesn't seem possible to me that is has been that many years since he came to live with us as a 6 1/2 week old puppy. After we got home today I tried to get him to sit still long enough to grab some photos. A nearly impossible task. But what I got will have to do. Here's a couple:

Grooming sessions are always a bit stressful for Alfie. My first question whenever I pick him up is "Did everyone survive without wounds?" Actually he is one of the most personality loaded and spirited dogs I've ever had in my life. But...lets just say....being brushed down and trimmed and toenail clipping are all....not his favorite things. Luckily we have a gal at the PetSmart grooming salon who is super patient with him and he has come to like her so things go pretty well. In the more distant past we have had groomers call us in tears and tell us to come get him because they just could not handle him.
On the other hand....despite that mischievious glint you see in his eyes....he loves kids, people and other dogs. And will play and romp with them until he or they drop.
Tonight he has fallen asleep on the couch without even asking me for his 9 P.M. treat. So ya know he was really tired.
