There are so many great people here I have let other parts of life take up my time.

Well maybe I just slightly over exaggerated and perhaps the problem is overblown. ![]()

My neighbor has the new one and yes its wayyyyy overblown or at least we can not tell any heat difference but neither of us have games that might make a difference but the photos look outstanding now I want a new one.

Yeah, was trying to be somewhat sarcastic since the local news media blitz here on the iPad3 makes it sound like you are going to burn yourself and say, "no recalls issued yet". As you said it's gamers who may notice the heat difference.
Bet photos do look outstanding on the new iPad3's. ![]()

I was ok with not getting one until I saw the photos and since I like photography and my knowledge of photography you could fit in a thimbal its still fun just wish the lens were not so high.

I've been trying all afternoon to snap a photo of the young male Cardinal who keeps attacking that interloper he sees in our glass window and patio door. It's been going on all day so I suppose it must be mating season and he is trying to drive off all the competition....even his own reflection. But I've been unable to be quick enough to get a photo. We have quite a few of these gorgeous, bright red birds around our immediate area. The gals are also beautiful in their own way......dark greenish-brown color with that black mask and bright gold beak.
To recap.....we went to the AT&T company store and had the used iPhone 3G that our grandson gave his grandma activated. It'll cost us another $20 per month on top of all the other dollars AT&T sucks from us. But she liked the feel of the phone and the larger screen. Also like that it really is a tiny version of the iPad with many of the buttons AND the icons identical and in the same places as on the iPad. BUT.....it took only a day and a half to discover that the old battery was weak and would not last more than about one day....even though she made only two medium length phone calls and nothing else. SO...I checked on cost of replacement batteries. $45 at Batteries Plus with instructions and tools. But she is qualified for a new phone (with 2 yr. extension of her contract) so we went back to the store this morning and were able to purchase a brand new iPhone 3GS for 99 cents.....with full 1 year warranty. They also had 4G's for $45 but they were refurbished and came with only a 90 day warranty. There was an activation fee of $36 but now she has a brand new phone (not refurbished) with new warranty. We'll return the old phone to our grandson with thanks. She won't be using it for the web very often so 4G is not important to her. And to move on up to a 4G or 4GS would be prohibitively costly for us.
RE the iPad 3: Of course my wife plays only solitaire and sudoku and some crossword puzzles......not exactly processor straining games. So she has noticed no difference in temperature from her older version 1.
On the positive side.....I am quite impressed by the photo quality from the new lens and 5 mp sensor. Took this of our ornamental pear tree with the iPad 3 a couple of days ago (last time we had much sunshine):
I also have on of our magnolia tree but try as I would I could not get it down to the required size to be able to post it. Keep in mind that although this picture of the pear tree has not been modified from the original.....it HAS had the heck compressed out of it in order to get down to the required 333 KB size. I wish we could get that raised to at least 500 KB. Anyway....all that compression has a considerable detrimental effect on the image quality because data is lost. But....you get the idea. On the negative side....the biggest problem is the same one that plagues all cameras with LCD view screens only. If you are out in bright sunlight just forget being able to see anything. You just kind of point it in the general direction of the subject and hope for the best. So....in IMHO the cameras on all these kinds of devices are next to useless. And that includes all the phones. In MY cameras I WANT AN OPTICAL VIEWFINDER so I can see what I'm getting and can compose my images.

That might not be an exhausted battery. Before I got a smart phone, I was used to not having to charge my cell phone but once a week. When I got my smart phone, I found that daily charging was required, even if I barely used it to make calls.
Of course, I was playing music, games, experimenting with the Navigation, reading e-mail, etc. etc.
In normal use, my smart phone will go about 1 1/2 days without needing to be charged. But I do it every night anyway.

HI!!
I read the part about the battery and smartphone and I have to agree...any type of messing around on those things and the battery gets eaten up. I have a smartphone also and have to charge it everyday.
hpmsrm...What a huge ripoff though...that $36 upgrade fee, isn't it?? Also wanted to mention , that is one nice tree!!! ![]()

Real nice photo Phil and beautiful tree, thanks! Now I know your photos are crystal clear and too bad you had to compress it so much to fit under the 333K forum requirements/guidelines. Unfortunately it does lose a lot of detail when blowing it up after being compressed so much.
When the forums merged the reduction in the photo sizes pixel-wise to a third of what it used to be is a pet peeve of mine. Mod Trey was nice enough to have this photo limit raised to 1,000K so members could/would post more HQ photos. Then it was quite a blow to have this limit reduced clear down to 333K. I'm sure the paranoid forum designers/administrators who came up with this limit thought the forum storage capacity would be overwhelmed with a limit set so high. Has this materialized? No, and hardly anybody posts photos anymore since there's so much editing involved in cutting, cropping and compressing HQ photos.
Yet the forum CM's and other forum personnel would like to see more photos posted. We've been told this and it's evident since brand new members are now allowed to post photos. Believe it's a good policy change since new members can now post UVRT screen shots of problems they are having. But I've yet to see any photos posted other than a screen shot.
As you mentioned Phil, I suggest raising the photo posting limit to least 500K. If members post more photos it may add a little bit of color to a drab forum where regular forum members don't frequent as much anymore. I'd also fix the forum insert feature which lists different sizes but only the "Full Size" selection works. While we know it's been broke for over a year this has to confuse the heck out of new members who may want to post photos.
Phil, good luck getting rid of the territorial male Cardinal who sees himself as an adversary. While neat/cute now you may find he will never let up through the whole summer. I've even seen the same one do this from year-to-year. We used to have one who every morning at the crack of dawn would peck and beat his wings against our windows. Turned out to be real obnoxious after a while. Years ago I also had one at work who would not-stop peck at the shiny hub caps on my Austin-Healey Sprite. The ticking noise drove us nuts and I've also seen them doing this on the bottoms of shiny stainless steel slides at work. I don't think Cardinals are the "sharpest tool in the shed" and "bird-brain" comes to mind. LOL.
edit: changed loose to lose. ; )
