Interesting link and thanks for the reminder it's Friday the 13th. Since we have 2 black cats we've definitely altered our paths, especially when it's feeding time! LOL. I would think/hope in our house culture a "black cat is revered as a good omen or good luck charm, not a portent of evil.". ![]()

Friggatriskaidekaphobia
We had 2 black cats at once, and no worse bad luck than we always have.
They've been showing a dog doing Double Dutch, on local news all morning. 4 legs and better than many humans!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with 13. I got married on a Friday the 13th after living together 13 years, and last November we celebrated our 13th (26th) anniversary. Thirteen is my lucky number.

It's Saturday the 14th now. As usual I was really tired earlier....had a nap....and now I'm good to go until 2 to 3 AM. I hope the expected storms hold off until I can get the lawn mowed later this morning.
Won't be long now and I'll be planting my tomato plants. I can taste those BLT's already.
I'll have to dig up some of the dirt in my tomato bed. I made the mistake of using Miracle Grow garden soil a couple of years ago. First crop was a total disaster. Then I made the mistake of not digging all that junk up and replacing it with good soil......I just added a 40 lb. bag of top soil. It helped but last summer was still not up to my standards. So Now I'm gonna get rid of all that Miracle Grow junk and replace it with good, old fashioned top soil mixed with some fertilizer.....the formula I've had so much success with in the past.

Exact same thing here too. I plant a dozen Tubular Begonias ("Big Leaf Begonias") large hanging baskets for the back porch every year. The absolute worst product I've ever used was "Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix". It was impossible to even cut down on the watering and this soil kept the roots wet, even with good drainage, causing the whole plant to rot off and die. Their claim it protects from overwatering is bull! To top it off this soil is about twice as expensive as most potting soils, and will never use it again. Even the name is misleading and it should be called, "water retention potting soil" instead of "moisture control".
Another "Scotts Miracle-Gro Company" product I've had lots of trouble with is their "coated grass seed". Could not get this seed to sprout/germinate even after keeping it damp for more than a month. Their company headquarters is only 40 miles from me, in Marysville Ohio, and I've taken a lot of turf courses there. Called to complain about this expensive seed not germinating and all they could do was offer me my money back if I would produce the receipt. Lots of radio commercials airing here blasting Scott's grass seeds for the coating just adding twice the weight to a bag and you receive half the product. I believe it and will buy a different brand of seed next time around.
Not looking forward to another year of trying to grow tomatoes. Can't plant them in the ground because all the Black Walnut Tree roots in the ground will kill them. Invested some big bucks in large pots/containers last year in addition to large cubes of good potting soil mix. Between the hornworms, deer, groundhogs, squirrels, blight, fungus, etc., didn't even get a crop the last half of the year when that should be the best. ![]()
Thought about getting one of these solar powered electric fence chargers to keep the deer, groundhogs, squirrels away from the plants. But would have to train Charlie to stay away from it and a real pain to work around the plants, even if turned off, with wires running everywhere.

Oh boy! Near disaster here tonight. I accidentally tipped over a glass about 2/3 full of orange juice. It went all over the top of the end table and then ran off onto my Dell laptop's keyboard. I immediately grabbed towels and then my computer and rushed to the kitchen....turned it upside down over the sink and dumped all the juice I could...then used paper towels dampened with water. It's hard getting between the keys. Fortunately Dell has a cover under the keys so I don't think any juice got into the guts of the PC. It's all dried out now and everything seems to be working smoothly. Maybe I got lucky this time. My wife cleaned off the end table while I was taking care of the laptop.
My son persuaded me to give Google Chrome another try. So I installed it. I'm getting along with it better this time than on previous attempts. I admit it is a bit faster than FF but I still think I prefer FF. A couple of little things sway me that direction. One has to do with my long list of Bookmarks. With FF when I return to the Bookmark list it goes back to the previous spot. But chrome always takes me way back to the top of the list and I have to scroll down to return to my previous spot. Not a big thing....but significant to me. I had some problem figuring out how to import my bookmark list from FF over to Chrome. But I was successful so no problem there. I'm still alternating back and forth between them. Don't know which way I'll go in the end. Maybe I'll just leave them both on here permanently. I'm using Chrome right now. There is a beta version of Ad-Blocker Plus available for Chrome and I've got it installed.
One of our U-verse remote units is giving me trouble. The most used buttons like, for example the volume, are acting up. Very difficult to make it work. I've tried to figure out a way into the guts to spray some contact cleaner in there but I haven't been successful. Anyone know who we are supposed to call to get a new remote? (NO I didn't spill orange juice on it.)![]()
OK.....time to hit the sack. Had a very busy day Saturday but hopefully today will be more relaxed. Just hope we don't get any severe storms here.

For the remote, if you can get it open, there will be a printed circuit board with bare traces that align with the individual buttons. A white ink eraser (not an old dried up one) works very well at cleaning those bare circuit traces. For the button membrane, under each button is a little disc of conductive material (some type of graphite i think), A soft toothbrush and mild, fairly warm, dish soap solution works good for cleaning the under side of the button membrane. Get into all the button pockets around the discs and get the top side of the membrane as well.
As far as getting it open, there should be a small screw either in the battery compartment or under the label on back of the remote. Once the screw is out, you should be able to pop it open. You might have to used a small flat screwdriver to pry it open along the seam.

Regarding the orange juice in the laptop, your keys are probably going to begin sticking as time goes by. My wife dumped a glass of Vernors in hers and I got Acer to send another keyboard. I got a tech manual for the computer with the help of SJ and replaced the keyboard myself. Upon removing the old keyboard I discovered I could wash it off and reinstall it. I don't know if you would be able to do that but if you can then remove the keyboard and clean it.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
Yeah....I just may be getting to that age when I'll need a tippy-cup. Especially with so much techy stuff around the house.![]()
I may try fixing the remote....just because I enjoy doing that sort of thing. If I flop I can try ordering one. I had found that little screw in the battery compartment and removed it but boy that sucker is tightly fitted together. I'll try again and pry a little harder. Hope I don't break it.
RE the keyboard of the laptop.......although I'm usually fairly adept at fixing stuff....the last time I tried opening up a laptop to get into its guts.....I had springs and screws flying all over the place. Fortunately it was an old, outdated one. I ended up just tossing it.
As for spilled orange juice.....next time I'll make sure it has some "good stuff" in it.

Remember my incident a while back with cat barf on mine? I took it apart and luckily none of the wiring had corroded; works great now and still working--except for my worn off letters on a few keys!

I was gonna say, maybe it's not the age, but the vodka, that spilled the orange juice. ![]()
If your laptop is less than 8 or 10 years old, your in luck. Dell has instructions for disassembly on their website, just go to Dell support site and punch in your service tag and all the data for your particular laptop is right there. Dells are fairly easy because you can flip them over and all the screws are labeled, either with a little image of what the screws hold (like a keyboard), or they are numbered in the order of removal.
The keyboard is usually step 2 or 3 in the disassmebly order. Flip it over, remove the screws for the keyboard, flip it upright again, remove the upper keyboard bezel (piece of plastic between the keyboard and the hinge) which usually just prys off (caefully), there should be another screw or two under the bezel for the keyboard. Once all the screws are out, the keyboard lifts right out. Be careful though as there is a flat cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard. The cable is actually a small printed circuit on thin, flexible plastic and when looking at the connection point you'll notice that it looks like the cable just slips into a small block. The block usually has a small piece of plastic that wedges the cable in tight, if you pull that small piece of plastic out from the block about 1 or 2 mm the cable should slip right out. There is no "connector" on the end of the cable itself, the block on the motherboard is the "connector".
Now for the fun part. Take the keyboard and stick it in the dishwasher bottom rack on it's edge and run a cycle. Do not use detergent, or "extra hot wash", or heated dry" cycles. When the cycle is complete, take the keyboard out, lay it in the midle of a large towel (beach towel), grab up the corners of the towel so the keyboard is slinged in the towel and swing it around for a few minutes to "cetrifuge" any left over water out of the keyboard. Then hit it with the warm setting on a blowdryer for ten minutes and you should be ready for re-assembly.

Chrome: i like it - it's my browser of choice. I have IE 7, FF and Chrome on our (main) desktop. That way, my wife can use IE and keep her Faccebook logged in while I use Chrome to keep my account logged in. Phil, have you played Angry Birds on Chrome?
Seriously, it is a free add-on and is really a cool game.
Remote: Remarkably one of our original remotes gave up and guess what? It was the Volume control. It took 10 minutes on the phone
just to request a new one.
Otherness: My granddaughter played one of her Junior Roller Derby bouts this past weekend. For the second straight season, my son-in-law and I are the announcers. Nashville brought their own (guest) announcer and he announces, well, a bit differently. We could not get a word in edgewise, lol. We had a scare when one oif the Nashville skaters hit her head. Believe that she will be okay but they actually called EMS to take her to the hospital to see if she had a concussion.
Cincinnati also played a bout against our second tier skaters.

Does she have a moniker yet, like "Betty the Brawler" or "Susie Savage"? ![]()
I remember watching Roller Derby back when I was a kid, I'm guessing it's a tad safer these days.

Her name is Busta Kap and her number is #9mm. Her initials are KAP, so the coach pulled something out of the Urban Dictionary, that fit. Lol. I came up with her tagline, "She may be too young to carry a gun but she sure packs a mean shot." Her teamamtes have some good names, such as "Allison Plunderland," "Lucky Harm" (She's magically malicious), Caught n' Candy andf so on. Nashville has a girl named "Push Up Brawl." Now some of the adult skaters have names that are so risque, they make even me blush and that takes alot.
Most of the leagues (adult and junior) use flat tracks, unlike the old days. The banked tracks are expensive to obtain and store.
Here is my granddaughter, in the silver helmet, blocking the other teams jammer:
I am on theright, in my Tuxedo .... t-shirt, lol. My son-in-law is in the middle and the nutjob Nashville announcer (lol) is on the left:

Dave, I had a post all ready to go but after that last photo of yours.......
well...I can't top that one.
I have removed Chrome from my laptop. Causing too many problems. I started getting strange messages. For example "This add-on has stopped functioning an needs to be removed." But nothing indicated WHICH add-on was being referred to. Only had three installed. Turned them all off and the message kept popping back up. Drove me nuts. THEN it started popping up when I was not even using Chrome....like when I was using my Paint Shop Pro photo editing app. I also started getting blank screens when I'd go from one app to another, etc. At first I thought, "oh boy, now I've been infected with a bug of some sort". But I ran all my detection apps and nothing showed up. Finally I used my Revo Uninstaller to completely remove Chrome and after that all my problems went away. I have no idea what was causing them. But I had a couple of other objections to little inconveniences in Chrome so I'm not going to miss it. I'm back to my FireFox 11.0 and all is well. The problem with that pop up message did not occur at first but rather it came on after about a week of using Chrome. I do admit Chrome makes everything on the Internet happen a bit quicker than FF but not enough so to persuade me to put up with the other problems. And so it goes........
I wanted to go to the barber shop on Tuesday. But then my oldest son called and wanted me to drive him down to Tulsa, OK to pick up a car. Barber shop closed on Monday....so I bit my lip and went to the "Great Clips" shop where my wife goes. I've always had bad results when I let a gal cut my hair.....ALWAYS. But I really needed this cut because store personnel were starting to call security when they'd see me come in the door. So....as I said....I bit my lip and went to the "Great Clips" shop. "Long, medium or short?" she asked. I replied, "medium". Well......now everyone thinks I've gone "skin head." I need only a few tatoos, a leather jacket and a Harley and I'm all set to go. WHEN am I gonna learn. At least I'll save money because I'm not going to need another hair cut for about 6 months.
A Veteran – whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve – is someone who, at a one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’, for an amount of “up to and including his/her life.” ...Author Unknown

Glad that you liked the photo, Phil. Lol. Daddy Ho' Maker, The General and Diamond Dave.
Chrome - I don't have any add-ons with Chrome. The only thing that mystifies me about Chrome is when I leave it open, it bogs the entire system down, if it is idle for more than 20 or so minutes. When I go to close it, or maximize it, it moves at a snails pace.
By the way, the Nashville skater that hit her head, has a mild concussion and can't skate for a week. She is only 12 and was a bright spot for her Nashvillains team, scoring 24 points in one "jam", before she fell. We are travelling to Auburn Hills, Michigan this weekend - and we will be co-announcers at that bout, too.

IMO, the cut might not be top notch, but the experience of having the full attention of a women who is not telling you to take out the garbage (or reminding you of something you did wrong 20 years ago) is always worth the time. ![]()
