That is randy bugging me...he wants me to give up on Uverse WAP and just get another router for my wireless. I still have some coax mixed in with Cat5...he just won't leave me alone.

I just read that Evel Knievel died.

Here on the east side of Cleveland, it snowed last night. Stuck to everything and even brought out the salt trucks, but as expected, the temps went up and almost all of the snow is gone, save for a little on the cars, and we are expecting rain today.
THEN, the fun starts. Temps are supposed to drop again and then everything that is wet, will freeze, Oh joy!
I hate ice! I'd rather drive in a foot of snow than any kind of ice at all.

If anyone is familiar or has lived in the Great Lakes area, they know what this means. We live in what is called the *snow belt* and get these all the time. I wouldn't mind so much because I really do love winter and snow, but Tuesday, we have to go to a doctor's appt and right into an area that also gets slammed with lake effect snow.
Guess we will have to leave plenty early, then sit and wait.

Y'all keep that stuff up there, please? We'll be close to 80 today, tomorrow around 65 (rain), then back up into the 70's. I'm enjoying my shorts.

I hate summer and the heat, humidity, bugs and the high electric bills to go with it. Give me fall/winter anytime, even if I have to go out in it. I think just getting older, plus all the nutballs out on the road anymore, is what makes me nervous when knowing I have to drive anywhere of any distance (more than 5 or 10 miles) in bad weather.
Had someone tell me many years ago that I was *one fry short of a happy meal* in my love for winter!
I do know though, for you folks in TX, you get the ice every now and then and that is scary!!! It's bad enough up north, where we know and have the means do deal with these weather situations.
But when you aren't used to this or don't have the equipment readily available, staying off the road is a must!
Even southern Ohio, when they get slammed, they aren't really ready for it either.
The one good thing though is it prepares us for driving in all kinds of situations.

You're not the first person I've 'met' who likes winter...I'm just not one of them.
I love the heat, can do without the humidity; and wouldn't be able to live too well without our A/C I have to admit.
We have our share of nutballs here who can't drive, and that is in dry weather with the sun shinning brightly! Most people here know to stay off the roads when there is ice. All they do here is put sand on the major overpasses; no chains or salt here.

It seems to be the transplants from other areas who think they can 'handle' it because they came from the land of ice and snow. If you don't have salt and snow tires, you'll be sliding on ice no matter where you hail from.
Hope y'all are staying indoors and warm. Is it supposed to last all week?

I saw a headline earlier about the Midwest, but not this one.Is it common to have power outages during these storms? How do y'all stay warm when that happens? Seems a fireplace or wood-stove would not be enough. But I know y'all have homes built more to handle the cold than us southerners.
Guess you stockpile food and supplies like we do for hurricane season?

Wow! Maybe they could come down here and fix up Houston's grid? It doesn't take much ice here to snap power lines; I guess our lines are not as heavy duty as the ones in snow country?

Please, remind me about that again.
Not only was it one of the largest blackouts in history, but it was determined to have been started at the Eastlake power plant. Care to guess where we live? The smokestacks from the Eastlake plant are most prominent when we look out the living room window.
I took so much ribbing about it, I changed the location in my profile on one forum to read, Home of the Great 2003 Power Failure! Like I went over to the plant and started it!
It started there and then a whole mess of other things from 1st Energy triggered the rest of it.
One thing we noticed a lot of after that, there were tons of companies out there trimming the trees around the power lines, which if 1st Energy had done maintenance on in the past, the whole power outage might not have occured, or as been as widespread.
We were lucky. Our power was only out for about 12 hours, but with the heat, we still managed to lose stuff in the fridge and freezer even though we tried not to open it that much.
Not sure I would say our power is all that reliable. It's been pretty good since they did work in the neighboring area where there are houses. Prior to that, the power would go out at least a couple times a week for no reason at all.
Now, it seems better, but we still have trouble now and then and we had another power failure here, related to just our building around the 4th of July and for the work that needed to be done, they came out 3 weeks later on probably the hottest day of the year, to do the repairs from 10AM till mid afternoon.
And, as if this comedy of errors wasn't enough (the same exact thing happened last year too!) when they were finally getting ready to hook up the fuses, the truck with the lift parked right there, the battery dies on it! They were going to send the building truck over to jump it and we told them, don't bother. CEI will have to call their own people to do that since they have specialized equipment.
They had to maneuver one of the trucks so the bucket could get in close enough and do that without taking out a couple of residents cars too.
Actually on the initial failure, (around 4th of July) it was kind of funny. We had just finished watching a TV program and were getting ready to hit the sack, around 10PM, and when I shut off the TV, that exact same moment all the power went out.
My husband says to me......what did you do??? I'm telling ya, if looks could kill and he could have seen me..........
I can't believe he thought I caused the power failure by simply turning the TV off!!! What is it with you guys, huh?
