I was just reading on another forum that Amazon Wireless is going to have some awesome holiday sales coming up, especially black friday/cyber monday. If you're thinking about phone shopping, i'd wait till black friday and go through studentrate.com's amazon wireless link, so you can get a discount off your monthly bill. Is anyone giving cell phones for holiday gifts?

Check out Amazon's return polices just to be sure. But I've heard of studentrate's 10% discount and it's worked for a bunch of ppl.

Amazon still has a $100 Amazon.com Gift Card promo going on after Cyber-Monday for buying a "Hotspot-Ready Smartphone". But now the offer is only for Verizon and Sprint, with AT&T & T-Mobile no longer included, through December 31.
Amazon scared me off with their 1 penny deal since once I entered in the prompt I was not a brand new customer, even though my contract is expired, the phone price jumped from 1 cent to $199. Plus there are ETF's attached to AmazonWireless in purchasing a phone through them in addition to the ETF's charged by providers. Not that I would break a contract but just didn't like additional strings attached.

OH I didn't know the $0.01 was only for new customers? Oh well. I understand your concern too about the extra EFT's involved with Amazon, but sometimes they have unbeatable deals on phones.

Well, at least that's how it worked out for me and here's the ad that was listed. I highlighted the blue print (not links) for creating "new accounts" as a requirement of the offer. Since I'm in a family plan, and not willing to create a new account/add a new line, that's why I did not qualify for the one penny phone pricing. Of course they did not let you know this ahead of time.

A new line of service includes a new individual account, a new family account, or a new line to an existing account. The promotion does not include upgrades or contract extensions. For upgrading an existing line of service, prices may vary by phone and carrier. See frequently asked questions for more details about ordering on AmazonWireless. It seems like I ran into lots of quirks with many sites during the past 3-4 days. ![]()

Yup, that seems to be how it works. I found that out when looking at the Galaxy S2, the lower prices were for new customers. Other places like WM, would only give the lower price to the PRIMARY number, not other lines.

How much is the discount off your monthly bill? Do you know the terms of the deal? Just order the phone from amazon wireless? Since the $0.01 sale is over I'm looking at the $100 GC w/ a hot spot phone/activation. Let me know. Thanks.

It doesn't look like you'll be able to tell what the monthly discount is until you enter your info into the below "studentrate.com" site when you go to deals. I saw in the comments from NoSup76's link it may be 10% for AT&T. This deal may also involve purchasing a phone through Amazonwireless first if you look at the prompts in this link.
Unfortunately it looks like the deal through AmazonWireless.com for buying a Hotspot Ready Smartphone is only for Sprint and Verizon to receive a $100 GC. The AT&T services are now receiving a $50 gift card when purchasing a mobile device as can be seen in the link.*
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=10007
edit:* correction - the $50 gift card through AT&T is for a mobile device and not a hotspot ready smartphone. Also the T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile prices are for mobile devices with discounts listed in the link.

It is a 10% discount for AT&T and you either have to follow the link in the deal to the amazon site or use their AT&T link , to order a phone then send in your order # etc.
So you can get a $50 gc with AT&T instead of $100?

If you are asking about the "Hotspot Ready Smartphone" deal though Amazonwireless it looks like receiving a gift card in any amount through AT&T & T-Mobile smartphone purchase is gone altogether. I just rechecked the offer/link and you only receive a $100 gift card in purchasing Verizon and Sprint hotspot ready smartphones. Bummer.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=10007
If you scroll down in the link you will see $50 gift cards for purchasing AT&T mobile devices, not smartphones.
I thought the reviews at the bottom your AT&T link were interesting where one reviewer said the iPhone 4S did not qualify for the student discount. Yet another reviewer said they have received a 20% discount for the iPhone 3GS since January. They may have had better offers at the beginning of the year through AT&T/student discount site.

So the only way to get a discount or GC is from Amazon?

No, you don't' not need to buy your phone/device through Amazon to receive the student discount. Here is a national list of vendors who are offering the 10% discount through studentrate.com.
But the gift cards are only offered on certain deals w/phone purchase and you would have to check the individual vendors to see if one is offered. As mentioned previously the gift card deal through Amazon is no longer available. Sorry and believe this may have also been only offered to new wireless customers. Not saying you aren't a new customer but that's how most of the deals work with vendors and providers.

I got a confirmation that the 10% discount had been applied to my bill. I am very happy that this all worked out. one more question, if I want to add a line in teh future (my brother wants to switch to AT&T), will i be able to keep the discount/apply it ot my second line as well?

Kind of difficult question about receiving a student discount on a second line. I couldn't find anything in a search of the student rate site including their forum.
Believe I would email them directly though this link and ask.
Good luck and let us know what they say.
