All right, here goes.
I'm a tech savvy person. I own all different phones, iPhone 3gS/4/Nexus S/Samsung Focus, etc, just so I can experience other platforms. Not only that, I research devices I do not have, constantly. I know what's going to be coming out before it's released. Example, well before the Samsung Galaxy S II was in the States, I was already aware and reading up on it's speficiations.
Basically, I'm a phone enthusiast. Every time I walk into an AT&T store to check out a new phone in person, I end up answering questions of another customer. I get told, "You should work here".. but customers AND employees!
Example, I was breaking down to a customer the differences between the Motorola Atrix and the Samsung Infuse, from the differences in UI (Motoblur vs Touchwiz, I even explained HTC's Sense UI as well), internal sepcs, CPU/RAM/Internal memory/SD card expansion capabilities, etc. I had an employee standing there watching and she says, "Wow, you really know EVERYTHING about these phones, I'm amazed."
I could name the battery capacity for each phone, including how long they lasted on an average day use for the guy. I even explained, in detail, the advantages and disadvantages of the devices.
I have people eating out my hand, and I have employees that are supposed to be doing what I'm doing looking at me dumbfounded. I'm not saying ALL AT&T employees are like this, but it seems to be the norm.
Even more hilarious, the fellow I was talking to, and this happens often, expained that the lady told him to stay away from Windows Phone devices. WHAT!? First, keep in mind I don't work there, yet he's confiding with me. I explain to him that since Mango has been released, a lot of the previous issues with Windows Phone devices has been addressed, and it would be premature to count them out. Of course I go over what Mango is and explain the benefits.
WIndows Phone is a great option, and the sad part is people that are not educated, AT ALL, attempt to downplay it, "It has no apps", yet never once ever looked into the app catalog, EVER. They have zero experience or knowledge about the devices, yet put them down. BAD business.
Yet, AT&T hired that person, and not me. She had no idea what Mango is, btw.
My point: I have plenty of work experience, in sales, and other things. Yet, I failed the questionaire to work for AT&T. I'm sort of venting, because I know I'd be great at the job. I'm a loyal customer that has unlimited everything, but personally I am likely to close my account and move on to another company. I have more often than not defended AT&T on a very large forum (200K+ members) I moderate on, and I get "denied" a job? I feel like if I was actually given a chance to prove what I know, they'd be eating out of my hand.
A loss to AT&T. Keep up the good work hiring the same people. I'll be in your stores occassionally answering the tough questions your employees fail to answer. And for those on this site that are employees that do have a clue, I'm not talking about you. My post is not about ALL employees, there's good people out there, I just feel I would be a good one. And on average, most of them suck.
Regards

@ Dcookie, I suppose you're right. It's just so frustrating. :C

I have 8 years experience with the wireless industry, working for Alltel/Verizon and Sprint. AT&T wouldn't hire me either.. Haha. Just FYI, Verizon is better to work for than Sprint. I'd check them out if I were you.
To be honest, this makes me feel a lot better. As in, it's not just me that's dealt with this. I really wanted to work for AT&T given my loyalty to the company as a consumer, but now, as I said before, I'm questioning whether I want to continue my business with them. I aso have a data connect 5GB plan with them. I pay over $200 a month for my plan, and it's just me. My contract expires this December.
It's not a childish threat, it's just why should I be loyal to a company that won't give me an oppurtunity to even have an interview to find out what I know?
Ah, anyway, I'm rehashing. I'll look into Verizon and see what's up, I guess. I love the industry, so I guess it really doesn't matter what company I work for. c:
Thanks.

People get hired and they don't. Nothing to get butt hurt about, they just didn't feel like you fit the position, or filled all the positions. If you want to cancel your services that's up to you but imo thats very childish, and plus you will lose the unlimited data if you have it.
I've heard Verizon is a good place to work also, my cousin is a manager at a Verizon store here in my area and he loves it. I've personally been looking into swtiching to retail, either for AT&T or Verizon I'm getting bored with the call center thing, especially since we don't get any commission in my department and I sell so many phones and services D:

I'd try BestBuy, Radio Shack or another authorized retailer...

You might try an independent at&t authorized dealer.
I am an AT&T employee and the postings on this site are my own and don't necessarily represent AT&T's position, strategies or opinion.

I do NOT recommed an authorized retailer. I have worked for **** AT&T authorized retailer and it was the worst company ever. They changed the comission structure 3 times in the 6 months I worked there and the boss was doing shady stuff all the time. Even charged for sim cards!
