Agreed...but there was something to be said about the analog technology... Yes, it could have a lot of static if you are in a weak signal area and the battery life was terrible, but the voice and audio clarity sounded very clear - like a landline. Now everything sounds digitally enhanced. Ever listen to an radio call-in show and you can hardly hear the caller or makeout what they are saying? Never the case when the phones were analog before they switched to CDMA/TDMA and then GSM... Wish we had that enhanced voice quality back. Any chance that could be the case with LTE now?

chrisjbritt....OMG!! That DOES look like my old Audiovox!! LOL! I don't remember the Bell Atlantic/Nynex commercial, though. I just came onto the whole cellular scene in the early 90's. I think my plan, thru my brother's place of employment, cost $19.99/mo 45 min/mo and pay per use text..but I had no one to text...no one else in my family had a cell phone!! ![]()
LOVED that vid with the 30oz. phone!! THAT was a classic...how would you like lugging THAT thing around with you??
And I though my Audiovox was heavy?? ![]()
WHERE did your disclaimer go??? I liked it!! ![]()

Yes, spd...a tiny, tiny screen ...black and white...but it DID have a neat Snake game, if I recall.
HEAVY wasn't the word for that thing!! ![]()

Another phone I liked was my BlackBerry Curve 8210 that I had a couple of years ago. I sure miss that thing, but with the way things are today, I most likely would have gotten a data plan added on. Great phone, though. I sure miss having a smart phone.

Wow! That Siemens S55 was small. I looked it up on Google. It sounds like you really enjoyed that phone.
In terms of an iPhone, I think I would really enjoy it. I have several friends that have iPhones and they are very satisfied with them. I am hoping I can get an iPhone in the future and I would get it unlocked from Apple.
I also have a question about that. I have read on some of the wireless forums about how once an upgrade of the operating system is done on an iPhone, an unlock would be reversed. Would that happen with Apple's factory unlocekd iPhones?

Glad I kept the RAZR as I may be going back to that when ATTs new Share Plans go into effect with new phones.
I'll go back to using an MP3 player for Wi-Fi connectivity!
I suspect it will be harder and harder to find dumb phones that aren't even feature phones!

Sorry, I haven't been to this thread in a while! A pentaband phone has the 5 radios that operate on both T-Mobile's and AT&T's high-speed data (HSPA+) networks. Most phones today are quad-band phones that only allow high-speed data on either T-Mobile or AT&T. This prevents customers from having the freedom to shop competing networks for cellular service if data is important to them.
@crkcallie, if you buy an unlocked phone from Apple, it is unlocked regardless of updates. What you heard about updates is true for modified iPhones, not factory unlocked iPhones.
You all went back down memory lane and made me feel old. I not only remember Bell Atlantic Mobile>Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile, I was a paying customer of them. I had an Audiovox back in the day, too.
I think that the battery life on the old Motorolas (I don't remember which model I had) was 4 hours standby, 30 minutes talk time. We have come a long way from that!

Hi 21stNow. Thanks for answering my question. I found it unclear whether or not the factory unlocked iPhones had the same limitations as the modified iPhones for AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.
Yes. We all have gone back down memory lane. I remember some of the phones that I have had that really worked great.

My favorite phone is the White 64GB iPhone 4S that I'm using now. It has great reception and call quality which are 2 things that I must have in a cell phone. It also gives me data speeds greater than 8 Mbps down and 1.60 to 2 Mbps up which is an added plus.

I had a Nokia 3120 with AT&T before AT&T and Cingular merged. That was another one of my favorite phones. It was small, easy to carry, physical buttons, good audio quality. I liked the device all around. :-)

Nokia used to be THE leader in cell innovations--what happened?
My frist was a Nokia, but I forget the model #. Kept it for the home museum of old tech. ![]()

Welcome to the forums!
My last and fave was the same RAZR! I just recently went to a smartphone, so you're not alone, LOL!
What held me back was a required data plan. ![]()
But once you go smart, you can't go back!

That's not why I hate touchscreens.
I don't like the fact, that sometimes, mine doesn't respond when I'm typing a text. A couple of girls at work are looking into those special gloves for the cold weather. Not sure how good they'd be?

OH! Not something that we have to deal with as much. I've read they do work, and stores sell them down here. You could always return if they don't work.

Oh yea, I forgot!
Yea, not looking forward to the winter..I don't think we'll be as fortunate this year but, ya never know. Last winter was pretty mild and hardly any snow. For that price though, they're worth a try.

I have some Isotoner SmartGloves. They are OK, but not worth a lot of money. I don't have the dexterity needed to do a lot of things on the touchscreen; I can mainly scroll and tap on an icon or something larger. I definitely could not type anything with those gloves on.

Maybe just a stylus would be a better option, then?

Yeah, the stylus is a better option. I have a few of them that either stopped working, or I just don't use because I don't carry them around with me all the time.
