I love it, I loved my Vista before too, I am a big MS fanboy when we're talking about operating systems, but I really don't want anybody to start comparing it to anything. It's not what I am interested to find out from people here. No war, no hate here, please (you know what I mean, don't even mention macs, let's discuss them in a separate topic, ok?). Do you like it or not? I think they did great job with it, very familiar but sooo much better.. fast and pretty.

I think it is a very streamlined and easy to understand OS. My only concern is compatibility issues.

Well with windows 7

1. In general it is way faster than vista and xp,

2. The install takes about 15 minutes

3. Windows 7 works with a huge variety of programs

4. If it does not work with a program the compatibility mode has jumped leaps and bounds since vista

5. The visual Aesthetic is Awesome!

6. The Security is Alot easier to deal with

7. Driver install is much faster and Windows 7 usually selects the right driver automatically for many devices.

8. Network connection and operation is much smoother.

9. Although still a memory hog compared to xp you can get by one 1GB fairly easily

10. It does not have nearly the bad press vista had.

that is my top 10 for Windows 7 over Vista and XP

and comparing the beta to the full version, calculator and notepad got a new look compatibilty increased and it wont be along time untill a service pack is required. but the beta itself still works great.

Thank you for that last post.

I've been toying around with installing it or not and that may have just convinced me.

Is there somewhere where I can try it out or a torrent somewhere that you know of?

that is my top 10 for Windows 7 over Vista and XP

i've heard that its nice (and this is no argument) but i will forever be a mac fan....however i liked vista, and i want to try 7, but don't think it will change my mind...another question and it may be a stupid one....why is it called WINDOWS 7

There are plenty of torrents because Micrososft was allowing a free beta for over a year you should be able to find plenty of them, when i get home ill see if i can find a good one

Its called windows 7(i think) becuase it goes windows 2.0 Windows 2000(3) Windows ME (4) Windows XP(5) Windows Vista(6) and now Windows 7

ah...but still its not the 7th version, there was windows ne (or nt...cant rememebr) windows 95, windows 98....and there is one more but it slips my mind at this point.

You have to remove Win9x/ME from the lineup, as that "model" has been discontinued and was replaced by the "NT model". Then you also need to know that Windows XP is NOT a full version, but an update of Windows 2000. So it goes:

Windows NT 3.x
Windows NT 4
Windows 2000 (a.k.a.: version 5.)
Windows XP (a.k.a.: version 5.1)
- Windows Server 2003 (version 5.2)
Windows Vista (version 6.0)
- Windows Server 2008 (version 6.0)

(You can find this info using Regedit in the key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\ Current Version.)

So it would seem to make sense that the next version of Windows would be called "7", since many people knew that Win2000/XP was "version 5" and Vista was "version 6." But if you look at the Regedit key on a Win7 machine. it shows version 6.1! So like Windows XP, Windows 7 is not a full version over Vista.

yeah i knew it was something like that, i would have googled it but im at work and can't use teh Google but windows 7 is a completly rebuilt kernel from Vista it is strange that it would show 6.1

Not strange because a new kernel would have full version number increment. Windows 7 uses the same kernel as Vista, for the most part. Thus the incremental version number.

No. Because some were re-builds of the existing kernal. While someone were made from scrach. There have been 7 made from scrach versions.

I heard they called it Windows 7 because it's their lucky version. I preordered one back in July and got it on the launch day (or a next day, not sure), the only problem that I had was with my wireless card drivers, 64 bit W7 required a digitally signed driver (so did Vista 64 bit, but...), Netgear had them for Vista, but didn't have them for Windows 7, I fixed it by disabling cryptographic services in msconfig (some say there is some kind of security concern with doing that though). I also had to get some updates for some of my software, like Roxio and some new drivers for other things like a 360 Controller. I like the speed, although my computer is fast enough for me not to notice much of a difference except for booting and shooting down times (I installed a copy on my parents' computer as well and theirs is few years old so the increase in speed is definitely noticeable). I like the new task bar a lot too, and a show desktop button in the right corner with which I can see a desktop without minimizing all my windows by just pointing at it but not clicking. Libraries and Favorites in "My Computer" are nice too.

Sorry I honestly think windows 7 is a rebadge Vista with what the customers wanted. They just removed things that shouldn't have been there, and actually got outside support/drivers that Vista didn't have. They should have done it from the beginning. At least this time they listened, and now they are advertising they are listening to their customers.

I Have the Windows 7 Professional Beta version but i will be upgrading to Windows 7 Pro full version next week

yea well i feel that wether or not you are building up on or upgrading a "kernel" its a new version if you name it differently, if not it should have been like windows 95, windows 95.2...do you get me...so in my mind its windows 15 LOL
