what does a ringtone really cost? [ Edited ]

My wife just got a new lg shine and I am not sure what or how to help her get a ringtone. I have a Iphone 3G so have not used the media net. She just wants one ring tone and her experience before with sprint is making her cautious. She downloaded one song ringtone and got a bill for over eight dollars, that included the 99 cent ringtone and the data usage to go on the internet and get it. Kind of pricey, she did not get the internet or data plan, just voice and texting with AT&T. Also is there a way to turn off the ability to have the internet available on her phone? It has the stupid little joystick and evidently when you push on it for a second, wether you mean to or not, it connects to something. She doesn't want to get billed for accidently pushing a button.

With AT&T You will still be charged for the data that use when you download the ringtone.

so i guess that means that she will be charged depending on how long she hunts for the ringtone to suite her needs? So it could also be 8 bucks huh?

Does her phone come with a Data cable? She can always download a ringtone from www.motomail.co.uk to the computer and then transfer it to her phone with the cable. These ringtones are all free, but you need to register your email address. I've been using this site for about 5 years or so. There is no spyware or adware on this site, just people sharing their ringtones that they created for everyone. Another option is to create your own ringtone. I use Audacity to create mine.

She can always go to the ATT website and look for whatever ringtone she wants. I've also gotten plenty of free ringtones from funformobile.com and zedge.net. My husband has also made some for me using Audacity and sent them to me in a text message from the computer. Just remember. the ringtones size for the Shine has to be UNDER 300 kb and around 30 sec or less.

Yes, they are around that price...some are more...$2 plus.  But there are data charges as well if you do not have a data plan...such as Media Net. So you will be charged at least pay per use $.01/kb.
