This is so annoying to pay such money for a service that fails with no good reasoning. I came home after working to relax and catch up on some shows, nope all erased. Called technical support and there trying to say it could be do to a power outage yet nothing else in the house was effected. So now all my shows that I could not watch are gone. Does anybody else agree that att is getting expensive? What gets me even more is it saved what shows to record and shows them on schedule but no prior recordings.
grrrr I want to chuck the unit out the window!

It could be that you have a bad dvr, or something else could have caused it. It is possible to see those shows that were erased. Go to VOD and scroll over to "FreeShows" and then scroll down to networks or prime time. You can select the network that aired the program and it should be listed there. Sorry about the issue you experienced.

As RCSMG said, it is a shame that you lost all your previously recorded shows. I am sure that it has nothing to do with a power outage, though, as the shows are stored on a hard drive and unless the shows are currently being recorded, the files should be closed and, therefore, not affected by an ungraceful power-down due to a power outage. Case in point is the fact that I had a 3-hour power outage last night (once again) due to a thunderstorn that went through the area. The shows were not lost this time nor any other time in the past three years of U-Verse service when the power has gone out. I would suspect that something else occurred within the DVR itself and replacement of the DVR may be advisable.
As for the shows that are scheduled to be recorded, that information is actually not on the DVR itself but, instead, stored on a server at AT&T's facilities so that it is easily accessed and updated as you wish wherever you can get to the Internet. This also makes it handy for when you need to replace the DVR: you don't have to reprogram all the shows you want to record.
If you want to get the DVR replaced, get in touch with the AT&T U-Verse team at 1-800-288-2020 or chat with them through the Live Chat feature at http://uverse.att.com or you can get in touch with either Alex or Jamie via private message (click on either of their names to open a new window to send them messages) and they will assist you.

No doubt, losing months of recordings is a frustrating part of being a U-Verse customer. It's happened to me 3 times over the years and my current DVR is increasingly locking up for no reason, I'm just hoping it gets me through the end of the season.
It also happened when I was a Time Warner customer, but because of their teeny-tiny DVR hard drive, the impact was limited because I couldn't record more than 20 hours or so of HD on their 80gb drive.
These days, you have options to see the shows that were deleted. RC mentioned the on-demand offerings but don't overlook the network web sites and iPhone/iPad apps. The combination of an iPad and an HD connector (either cable or over-the-air) will give you a U-Verse like (well.. almost) experience. Also, don't forget the U-Verse iPad application which has additional shows, some of which are not available on-demand on the TV. Good luck.

They actually are on the DVR, but backed up on ATT's server so they can easily be rebuilt for whatever reason. ![]()
