We are moving 1.5 miles from our current home. When we scheduled to move our service- the customer service rep informed my husband that we would keep all our equipment and that we wouldn't lose anything saved on our DVR. Today when they called to confirm our appointment, I mentioned something about catching my last recording on Friday night to watch on Saturday after everything is all set up. The customer service representative said that all my recordings would be erased when the service is moved.
If I'm keeping the same equipment, why wouldn't my programs be saved on the hard drive? We've been remodeling our home for the last two months and have two months worth of tv saved on there... I'm very disappointed that we are going to lose it all.
Are we really going to lose everything?

That's a good question, haven't seen anyone report whether the recorded porgrams are there or not when moving w/same equipment. ![]()

Chris is right--I don't think we know the answer!
Recordings used to be lost any tiime a Disaster Reovery was performed, but now there is a revised method that can be used to NOT lose recordings. Perhaps they have made a breakthrough in moving equipment?

I had to have a cancel and reissue done for my act. When the act. # changed I lost the recordings.

But that's not moving it was a 'rip & rebuild', you lose all recordings and maybe all series setups too. We don't know the moving answer yet. ![]()

Well, I guess I'll get to be the guinea pig for this - my Uverse will be moved on Saturday. I'll be sure to report back with my results.
Thanks

And it hasn't been that long since they changed policy for even allowing you to take equipment with a move (in same city, IIRC).
If you keep the same account and it's just a different location, hopefully everything will be intact. Good luck! We'll be waiting to hear the result!

The only other thing I was thinking about is will provisioning the service for a new address will cause recordings to be lost? Hopefully no.

Yeah, and I was thinking like phone service where you can take your number with you. This will be interesting.

I would advise for you to contact customer installation or technical support to answer your question. They also have at&t tech 360 support via online that is available 24hrs and they may be able to answer your questions.
Sure, you could do that. However, you could probably also flip a coin to determine the answer with a similar degree of accuracy.
I'm afraid you'll only know when you hook up your DVR and it (a) does, or (b) doesn't have your recordings. If the answer is (b), you may need to take steps (like a disaster recovery) to make it free up the space that might be occupied by recordings that are really still there but are inaccessable.

I have called and spoken to several different people in the last two days, I've had as many different answers as people I've spoken to. The basic answer is either yes or no (obviously) but the reason for the yes or no varies dramatically. I've resigned myself to losing all our recordings, and since we've been in the midst of a massive home renovation for the last three months - that's more than 100 hours of tv that I was looking forward to veging out with this summer.
The reason I'm annoyed is because I would have been more diligent about keeping up with my shows, if I hadn't been told by the very first person that we could keep our equipment and all our recordings. ![]()
I'll be sure to update as soon as I get everything hooked up.

One thing is certain, you will definitely find out after your installation is completed.

Just got everything up and running - it took 7.5 hours from start to finish - but it was worth it - still have every one of my recordings!

We transferred our Uverse service when we moved approx 10 miles & had been told by AT&T to move our DVR with us & we wouldn't lose our recordings. Same situation as Hendu1976... busy packing, remodeling and had about 2 months of recordings that we were looking forward to catching up on once we moved. Lost them all! I think AT&T tells you that you won't lose them to keep you from signing up with a competitor. Nothing but equipment trouble since the move. DVRs work sporadically. Even the phone # that AT&T told us we'd have once we moved was wrong. We had new checks printed with that # and had given it out to all our contacts, banks, credit card companies... everyone. Seriously BAD dependabilty and service. We'll be spreading the word and switching providers at the 1st opportunity.

But the OP said he DID NOT lose his recordings.
It sounds like you had a change in phone number (?) that was attached to your Uverse account, and possibly that is was triggered the deletes? Do you have the same Uverse account number after the move?
Maybe give Alex a whirl, and see if he can find out what went wrong. He's an ATT employee who can put you in touch with the right person(s).
I've lost recordings numerous times due to DVRs going bad, and/or having to swap out the equipment. Agree this is a big PAIN, and wish there was some way to back them up on an external drive. ![]()
