I just got att uverse installed and I am having trouble recording shows. I have the VIP1200 a silver box upstairs and a black box downstairs. when I'm watching a show and I want to record it I hit the red record button on the remote. The oval power light goes off on the VIP1200 when i'm holding the button down. When i release the record button the light comes back on. I hit all of the buttons on the top half of the remote (S10-S3 (rew,ff,stop, play, replay, fwd) and nothing happens. When I hit the pause button the show timeline of the show comes up and shows how far along the show is. Nothing stops or pauses.
I've reset the VIP1200 and still nothing changes. Does the VIP1200 have a DVR in it? I paid for the DVR service so i'm not sure what's going on. If you guys have any suggestions or thing to try please let me know.
Thanks for your help!
Nick

The Motorola VIP 1200 is a regular receiver. You only have one DVR which is a Total Home DVR (THDVR); however, youcan record and watch programs from any TV connected to U-verse. Try unplugging each of the U-verse receivers connected to your TV's for about 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
What model is the black box downstairs that you referred to?

What TV package did you select (U-Family, U100, U200, U300, U450)?

The box in the basement is a VIP2250. I have not tried to record on this device yet. I will try now and post my findings.

Just as an FYI, the U100 is no longer offered to new customers.

Ok, good. The VIP2250 is the actual DVR.

Yes, the the VIP2250 is the DVR. Try unplugging each of the U-verse receivers connected to the TV's for about 30 seconds and then plug them back in. Once they complete rebooting, try recording a program.

Ok, unplug the U-verse Residential Gateway (i.e router/modem) and then plug it back in. After it reboots, reset both of the U-verse receivers again.
By the way, have you ever been able to record a program on U-verse?
