When I set up a variety of shows to record and a conflict occurs why does it require a manual resolution? Should it not find the same episode at a different time or date? Yes I always set my shows to record at any time, any date and first run

It would be nice if the DVRs did that, but they don't. The only way to get a second airing scheduled is to set your series recordings to firt run and reruns. But then you would have to change the initial date of the first recording to resolve the schedule conflict. IMOP

The second showing of the same show on the 'cable' channels is usually 12 mid or later ET (the next day so now it's a rerun), so no way for it to pick it up as first run on the next day.
Every way to solve it will require some manual input to solve the conflicts. Using the first-run and re-run option will have you picking up the same 'cable' show all over the next 2 weeks (and possibly even later), then having to delete them.
Personally I just go into the Guide and look for the later showing, choose it and delete the conflicting ones.
Also if a Network show is conflicting, see if there are any 'cable' shows to move to now allow the Network show to be recorded. Good luck ![]()

Other providers have systems that do find the alternate showings and schedule it - just not UVERSE

Complain to Microsoft. The U-verse receivers use the Microsoft Mediaroom software. If Microsoft has not developed that feature in Mediaroom, U-verse will not have it.

I was wondering this same thing as I've been looking to swithc out TV from Direct to Uverse. I have this feature with Direct DVR an it is nice because sometimes we do have a conflict with scheduling and the Direct box will automaticly switch to the next available time to record.
But my husband made a good point that if we are able to recored more than 2 shows at a time with Uverse, then the shows we watch and DVR shouldn't be an issue for conflict anymore...............Things that make you go hum! lol
I'm still not 100% positive that I want to make the switch as the sales person answered a lot of my questions with the tech will know during install ![]()

Actually, U-verse does have the ability to find additional showings. It is manual, not automatic.
When scheduling a new series, if it detects a conflict, the alert window has an additional showings button to allow you to pick another showing.
This is OK for the "primary" showing. U-verse often will schedule other showings that you are not aware of when you set up the series recording. This is covered by the priority setting to automatically select your highest priority series.
When you get used to it, it works OK unless you have a really large number of recordings. In this case, U-verse is probably not a good choice. I suspect you would need at least four 'grown up" viewers to generate that level of recordings.
The thing is, nobody can make the U-verse decision, but you. And, you need to try it for a while. The 30 day trial can do that.

First this only happens when you are trying to schedule a show not when this happens with series already set up.
Also when you go to look at other showings it often (or always) doesn't show you any description of the future showing so you can't tell if it is the same as the one you have to miss. It also doesn't show as long into the future as the guide actually carries.
I have to go into the guide - find the date and time of the original and then look myself for future showings of the program I want.
I buy the service from AT&T - if they happen to use an inferior product like Microsoft media it is their fault not Microsoft. The whole lack of features in their DVR is caused by lack of use of good software and lack of programming. Last I looked it was even a very old version of Microsoft software. Sorry AT&T's fault.

Please, please, please switch to another provider.

While I agree (and I even detect just a hint of sarcasm there
), I think that there are several areas where Mediaroom could be improved but I would hope that U-Verse has ongoing dialog with Microsoft on making Mediaroom better and better and more robust.
