All the programs I have setup to record always start a few minutes too early...forcing me to watch the end of the previous program. Is there any way to fix this so the DVR starts on-time?

The DVR has "soft padding" built in to the recordings. The recorded program will begin 1 minute prior to the scheduled begin time and end 2 minutes after the scheduled end time as shown in the Guide. The soft padding will not be applied if a conflict will be created which would cause a program not to record. The soft padding cannot be changed.

Taking this a bit further, will the DVR and programming take care of situations where there's a Presidential press conference called suddenly and push the recording back once it's finished? What about situations locally where the local station airs the San Antonio Spurs home game and a show normally on at that time now reairs at 3am? Will the DVR pick that up if I've used the on-line guide to program a recording?
Thanks...Kurt

If it were physically possible to update on the fly it would be a great feature.
All you can do is be aware of situations such as sporting events running over & add to the end time when scheduling. If you want a program scheduled after the over-running program, you need to extend that time, as well.

TiVo was able to do that...or so I thought. I don't see why the system can't figure that out. The guide or program times are out there in cyberspace...U-verse is not creating it. I'm selecting to record a show...it just so happens that there are times associated with it.
Well it hasn't happened yet...I'll have to experiment or look towards a situation and see what happens.

In additional to having the U-verse DVR, I also have a Tivo HD DVR. My Tivo cannot handle the scenario that you mentioned: will the DVR and programming take care of situations where there's a Presidential press conference called suddenly and push the recording back once it's finished

Thanks for the quick answer texasguy37, I was afraid that was the case. Too bad that's not an adjustable option... :-(

"A Gifted Man" used to be on Fridays at 8PM ET, then it moved to 9PM ET. I didn't do anything but the DVR is successfully recording it at its new time and now shows it as scheduled next Friday at 9PM.

Most of the time I just press FF, like I would when spacing over commercials, to skip that first minute of padding. However there are a few cases where I like watching that last minute of the previous show, like the last minute of "Everybody Loves Raymond" before "Hot in Cleveland".

I, too, LIKE the soft padding. Sometimes I'll see the tail end of a show and think "Man, I gotta find that in the guide and DVR the repeat of it."
Everyone's different I suppose.

I like the soft padding. Before soft padding was rolled out I regularly missed the beginings of many shows I recorded. I prefer to have it than not.

Call up the guide for one of the cable channels that tend to run a new show at 9:00 and a rerun at 8:00. Click the record button on the 9:00 show & you will see the red dot. Click the record button again & both 8 & 9 will double dot. Click it again to cancel.
Between "any day" and "about the time" you can pick up a lot of episodes.
