AT&T has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will be telling all friends, family, and acquaintances NOT to sign up for any service AT&T offers. I signed up for AT&T U-Verse in December 2011, but upon activation my service would not work and AT&T wanted to charge me $50 to have a Technician fix it. Therefore, I canceled my account the 2nd week in January. Upon cancellation, I was told that the $48.80 charge for internet service would be removed and that I would receive a bill with a $0.00 balance. That never happened. Then, in March I received a call from a collections agency because AT&T had sent my bill to collections AFTER telling me I had a $0.00 balance. I was assured that there now was a $0.00 balance and received a confirmation number. Today I received another phone call from a collections agency about my bill. Therefore, I called AT&T to investigate. The first customer service person I talked to told me I had a $0.00 balance so I called the collections agency and informed them. However, the collections agency told me AT&T had to remove my account from collections. Thus, I called once again today and was informed that my account was sent to collections because of an $0.80 balance. Apparently, the first round of collections AT&T only credited me $48 and not the full $48.80. I have been battling them for SIX MONTHS to get this resolved.
This is the MOST INCOMPETENT customer service team I have ever dealt with in my life. If this is how AT&T manages customers, I hope it has serious repercussions. It should not be the job of the customer to babysit the customer service team and make sure that they are doing their job correctly!! It is insane that it takes six months to properly credit an account and that the customer should have to call back and multiple times to verify that their request has been done properly.

The customer service is TERRIBLE!!! Here is my issue. I originally ordered U-Verse and paid $100 up front back in early May. Well I later come to find out weeks later that my address did not qualify on the day of installation (May 29). So ATT cancelled the order and said they were going to refund my money with-in 30 days. I should get an email or letter about it. I thought that was odd that it would take so long. In the mean time, I was able to order regular service and not pay a deposit. Everything is now active on a new account.
As for the refund, I called to check on the status after my install in June. I was told the money was reversed back to my account that was originally used. I never got any letter or email about this. I was told by customer service to check with my bank. So I called my bank and they said since they are going through a merge, my account number had changed and the money was sent back to ATT. I called customer service to alert them of this. I was transferred over 6 times before I could talk to someone. I finally got and agent, and told him the situation. He said that he could see the return and will have a check issued. He told me to give it a week to come. If I don't receive it, to call back.
Well a week had came and gone. So I called again. I went through the same scenario again. I was transferred numerous times cause I was talking to the wrong dept. How rude!!! I finally got another agent and told them the situation. I was given a case number for escalation and to call back in 2 days. So I called back and went through the same situation of being transferred and repeating my story over again. I was told the same thing about an escalation but to wait on a call with-in 48 hrs. I have never got a response. I have call back 3 more times since then, the agents don't know what to do but escalate things.
I am at the end the road with the whole situation. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!! Also, I may contact the news to expose the bad service and lack of response.

Why would you pay anything up front? Unless AT&T required a deposit ($400 and not $100) for bad credit, then you wouldn't pay for anything until after your service has been installed.

My experience also. AT& T U Verse is the worst customer service experience of my life. They screwed up an auto pay on my U Verse account cancelled my account while I was out of town and I have spent 3 days trying to get the issue resolved. I have been on hold a total of 4 hours for 2 days only to be told I should pay my bills I have been disconnected 3 times. My credit card company never received the request and cannot understand what the problem is . The auto pay had debited for one and one half years with no problem. AT & T tech support is telling me now they have to come out remove all the equipment and reinstall it because my account was suspended for non payment. They had no problem with lying to me for two days that the service should be on in 2 hours. Now they need a week to start all over . NO THANKS , So Long AT & T Verse . The worst utility experience of my entire life !!!

That is a drag that you had to experience that kind of treatment. You can send Alex a PM and let him know about that experience. He is an ATT Community Manager who can get you to the right person/dept. to get that issue resolved.
