In June of 2011 I moved from one location to another and disconnected my Uverse service from the old address and had Uverse service connected at my new address when it was available a couple of weeks later.
My old address was: {Personal content removed for your safety}, Hialeah, Fl. 33018
My old BAM Account number was *****2559
My new address is: {Personal content removed for your safety} Deerfield Beach, Fl. 33441
My new BAM Account number was *****8676
When I closed my account in June, 2011, I was credited in my final bill 144 dollars.
I did not request this credit, this was ATT’s calculations.
Apparently, ATT had made an error and there should not have been a credit to begin with.
For the next eight months ATT apparently tried to collect. They never sent a bill to my new address, never emailed me although I have direct billing, and never called me. My email and contact number never changed and to make it even more frustrating, I have been and still am an ATT employee for 31 years and by looking at old and new billing records it is obvious I am an employee since I get an employee discount. It should have been very easy to find me!
In February of 2012 ATT sent the bill to a collection agency. I still was not aware of this. The agency information is as follows:
EOS CCA, PO Box 439, Norwell, Ma. 02061-0439
Agency Account #: {Personal content removed for your safety}
In March of 2012, the person that now lived at my old house called me saying that a collection agency was calling him asking for me. I have no idea why they would call him when ATT has all my old and current information on file and the person living in my old house has no relationship to me. In addition, I was on direct mail pay and never got an email saying that my old account had an outstanding balance.
I called the collection agency that same day and found out the bill had been sent to collections!
I called ATT the same day and after going over the details of the closed account, paid my bill that same day.
I then mentioned that this should have never been sent to collections. It was not my fault I was given a credit that I never requested and not my fault that ATT never tried to contact me at the new address and the same contact number they had on file. ATT said they would take care of it with the collection agency.
On March 14, 2012 I spoke to an Ann at the collection agency and she said yes the account shows paid in full and the credit bureau would be updated as such.
I checked my credit score on June 1, 2012 since I am meticulous about my credit score. In January of 2012 through Equifax it stood at 803. Because the bill went to collections it dropped to 683! What is adversely affecting the score is that this bill went to collections although it shows it has been paid in full.
I have filed a dispute with all three credit agencies to have this collection removed but I am at their mercy.
I called the collection agency on June 4, 2012 and they flat out refuse to remove the report from the credit report. They said it is up to ATT to request this. They were very nasty and unprofessional said it was totally my faullt!
I called ATT on June 4, 2012 and they said they would contact the credit bureau but it sure did not sound like a very positive answer. They would give me no confirmation number or guarantee.
I can't believe that my credit score can be damanged so recklessly and stay that way for the next 7 years. One does not get an over 800 credit score by luck or coincidence. I have never paid late on anything, period.
I will not let go of this, I am posting it here hoping that some moderator can see it and handle it.
They should reply to {Personal content removed for your safety} or call me at {Personal content removed for your safety}
If this does not help I will continue to pursure all avenues available to me.
Please help...... G

I know what you mean. I had the same problem with Columbia House. They put a negative posting on my credit report with out even sending me a bill. I disputed it with the credit bureau and they also were nasty with me. I sent all my documentation to the Federal Trade Commission and after about a month the negative information was removed. Sometime it takes them to get action. They had violated the law by not contacting me and sending me proof of the charge. They could not even send the Federal Trade Commission proof of my charge. They in turn ordered the credit bureau to remove the collection account. That is one avenue to try.
I am just curious. If you work for AT&T you won't get in trouble by posting this on a customer message board for all of their customers to see? With my company if I ever posted anything negative about my company I would be fired. Just a word of caution as I do not know what AT&T policy is.

Thanks and I figure that since calling the uverse number didn't seem to help much then trying a message board would help in the hope that they have moderators on here!

texasguy37 is not an AT&T employee. He is a customer just like you and I. This forum is a peer to peer forum with some interaction with AT&T employees. You will see a tagline when an actual employee is posting.

Actually, he was referring to the OP because he made this comment in his original message:

It's one of the few times that someone was not accusing me of being an AT&T employee! ![]()

Yeah, just as prior posters suggested, you really should not be posting this if you want to keep your job. It's about equivalent to posting this to a news source since it's public.
Call 800 288 2020, get to either sales or billing, have them transfer you to employee concessions. I find it odd that you couldn't find a way to sort this out by calling since you're an ATT employee... ask your manager.
