About to be taken to collections for U-verse equipment

AT&T claims I owe them $1500 (for 3 months of service) my actual bill was $400. So I assume they value the equipment at $1100.

From DAY ONE of this debt collection I have asked where can I send this equipment back and if properly credited I will pay the remainder of the bill.

I've been told it was "too late" for that and the equipment is now mine.

Per the terms of service agreement, equipment must be returned within 90 days of the date service is terminated in order for the equipment charges to be credited back to your account. When did you terminate service, and why was the equipment not returned?

Ive been fighting this for a year or more. No address to ship quipment, no box, no nothing from AT&T.

Went to collections 30 days (as AT&T is wont to do) after servce was terminated, collection agency said it was too late to return equipment.
