I am currently deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Prior to deploying I called AT&T customer service and put my service on "vacation hold" while I was deployed. My service was shut off on the day I requested, as I can confirm, because I still was in my home for 6 days after is was suspended. When my bill came, it was for the full month and not the 4 days of service that I had utilized before suspension. I called AT& T customer service prior to getting on the Airplane to leave and they apologized and told me what the cost would be for the 4 days of service, which I immediately paid. Since that time, they have continued to bill me for full service, so my bill is now over $600.00 and listed as delinquent with them. I have made weekly overseas telephone calls totaling well into the 100's of dollars to try and correct this problem. I have spoken with at least 6 customer service agents who stated this was their mistake and they would correct the problem. I am into the 4th month and the problem is still not corrected. They continue to bill me for service that is not there - it is unbelievable to me that they can not fix this problem. The last time I called the supervisor refused to speak to me unless I was going to pay them money. I guess this is how AT&T won the award for supporting the military? I did the right things prior to leaving and now I am overseas worrying about something I should not have to. I continue to get billed for a service I dont have, and I am worried that they will report me to the credit agencies. I am at a loss on where to go from here, any thoughts?

First, thank you for your service.
Now, I'm not sure whether you are aware, but on "Vacation Hold", the bills don't actually stop, they are just reduced to $5 per service (internet, TV, and VOIP/POTS). Then there are charges for any premium services, like any sports package charges or movie package charges, or HD charges, etc. so the $5 a month they show in big print on the website is just the tip of the iceberg hiding all the small print and the real charges.
IMO (and if AT&T has any patriotic tendancies), they should be giving deployed armed services personal a totally free suspension program for those who will not require the service while deployed but would like to have it when they come home (with a quick and hassle-free way to reactivate). For those who get deployed and have to leave their families behind, AT&T should be giving them a 40 or 50 percent discount on their current services while deployed.
I suggest that you send Alex a message. Let him know the best time and manner for contacting you and he will have someone get in touch with you within a couple days to help resolve your billing issues. His reply can be accessed by clicking the little blue envelope, upper right corner of page.
