Well I saw my first blue screen w/the prompts today. Was watching TNT earlier and the picture froze for 3-5 secs and then the blue screen came on. It must have just been a TNT problem since all the other networks/channels were working and the signal came back on just a minute later.

I've had 10 techs (both inside/outside) over the last 2 months. They've changed my modem, re-did wiring, changed the port. They've done it all and still no resolution.
My service works great and then i get the BSoD and within a few minutes everything is back to normal.
The techs say that everything looks fine then I get an unusual amount of errors and it forces the system to reboot itself.
I've had U-Verse for almost 3 years in S. Fla and this has been an issue for about 2 months now. I really loved the service until recently. I read somewhere that they had a Phase 3 update and that it may be part of the issue.
I've also read it could be a bridge tap.
I have no answers and neither do the techs or the support staff on the phone (tier 2 or otherwise).
I'm at my wits end and don't know what else to do?
I just want my service back functioning properly.
HELP!

What software do I use to open the .exe file? Everytime I try to download it it comes up as a DOS file and it's unreadable.

I didn't know you had a Mac; it will not run then. Do you have a friend's Windows laptop you could borrow? Or do you use a VM program on Mac to run Windows?

So, what do you think one should do if this is a cable or upstream issue due to the Phase 3 update?

You can post your stats by downloading UVRT at uverserealtime.com

All I'm seeing is like what SomeJoe said, you get the screen telling you what has happened instead of a frozen channel/black screen. When it happens, I do NOT follow the steps on the blue screen; just wait a few seconds or change channels and it will disappear.

Last night and this morning when we turned on the TV and enabled* the STB/DVR in the bedroom, we got a full-screen message that the "TV Signal was lost". The message said that 2 of the possible solutions were to press and hold button on STB or to power off/on the Gateway. I held the button (soft-booted) on the DVR and the TV signal came back after normal time.
Note: 1) While this message was on that TV, I tried the other TV and STB and there was no problem there. 2) Simply turning off and on the TV did not help.
* That's what I call when the oval button is lit on the STB or DVR. What's a better term?

It has happened occassionally. Not the end of the world. Seems to have started happening since Phase 3 was implemented.
Like you said, a reboot fixes it.

It may be relatively minor compared to so many of the problems other users are having, but when it occurs the first time it is a shock, esp. for us who almost never have those problems others report (uh-oh, now I've done it). Also, not every family member understands what to do when these types of things crop up.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a big problem. If it occurs during a period when you have a recording scheduled, the show is not recorded. If it happens in the middle of the night, you don't even know it. It is happening often enough to me that it is frustrating.
If I knew what to look for for possible problems, I would.

Another option to correct it is to go into the menus and press restart. That'll bring it back too and you don't have to go to the actual box.

When in doubt, restart.

all day today I keep getting the blue screen with a bunch of print on it basically saying that the picture has been lost. If I change channels and then come back I get that channel back.
kinda annoying. Anyone else seeing this today (8/25/2011)? I live in the Atlanta Metro viewing area, so I am not affected by Hurricane Irene. ![]()

This is the exact same problem I've been having (St. Louis) for the past 6-8 weeks, since the "upgrade" came about. It is a huge problem, since I must reboot at least daily, and most recordings are not completed properly.
This must be a problem known to U-Verse, but as usual there is no recognition of it or advice sent to consumers on how to correct it. I've been waiting for a fix, but if none is forthcoming I'm back to Charter.

I don't get the blue screen all day but at the same time every evening, we lose everything including phone. It starts about 8:50 to 9:05 pm central time. We did have an areawide outage a few weeks ago and that is when our problems started. I almost hesitate calling in about it because everytime we have a problem with AT&T (which is for some reason about the same time of the year every year) we are continously told it is something in our home only to find out it is on their end. Normally it will take 2 to 3 service calls before our issues are resolved.

Hopefully not going too far OT, I have had this happen with one of my tvs. I turn on the tv and stb at the same time with the remote, but ther remote doesn't control anything but the power on and off of the stb. But after I turn the stb off and back on the remote controls the stb with no problem. Anyone else seen this or a simlar issue?

Problem solved! We had an AT&T tech come by to check the system. He found that our system was so old that he had to replace almost everything. We were among the very first Uverse customers and much has changed, it seems. The 'filter' was the first thing he checked, and he said he was surprised we could get any signal at all because this 'filter' could not keep up with the current signal rate. Then he discovered that the original AT&T installer had used the old Roadrunner/Comcast lines and connections, which are not compatible with the current Uverse signal, so he changed all of those. Then he found that the router was out of date, so he changed that. After everything was changed except the DVR, life is good. Everything works again. Have not had a frozen screen or the blue screen of death since everything was updated two weeks ago. Hats off to Steve and his professionalism.

I have yet to see it on the DVR only the STBs so if you reboot it's not going to matter at all to the recording.

I have seen it a couple of times after Phase 3 (earlier post), but not recently. However, I DO see it whenever I turn on the master bedroom TV, just for a second, then whatever channel selected comes right up. Maybe it's an HDMI/Cat5 issue?
This happens on the DVR only, odd, but not a problem.

Hey gasher, real glad too see your problems were finally fixed through a complete system refurbish/equipment replacement. Know you started this thread over 2 months ago as can be seen here so it's about time.
There's some great techs out there and too bad Steve didn't do your original install. The original install tech shouldn't have cut so many corners to begin with but the installers are given a short time frame where I don't believe the repair techs are. Still no excuse for shabby work, especially in not replacing all the connectors on the old cable.
Good luck and hope you continue to have smooth sailing from now on. ![]()
Spd, interesting you say loss of signal could be a CAT5/HDMI problem.
I find it odd whenever I have to reboot the DVR, just to get the guide and recordings back, for about a minute after loading there's a prompt floating around the screen which says "HDMI connection not supported". Then it finally connects and reboots correctly.
Never saw this until the Phase 3 upgrade so maybe there's a HDMI quirk in some systems. We also never lost the DVR guide before the upgrade. That one drive my wife crazy, along with when she can't get to her recordings/Y&R soap, when the DVR seems to hibernate and can't be woken up.

Leave your Residential Gateway with factory default settings. That way when holding that reset button for 10 seconds you get your tv's that are on the coax network (HPNA) back up and working, your wireless devices are still connect (laptops, Ipad, etc.) It can save/ buy you some time until a tech can be dispatched. Also voice trouble shooting steps/attempt troubleshooting with 1-800-att-2020 before DEMANDING a tech no matter how headsplitting tech support may be, because even if its ATT equipment a DISPATCH ON DEMAND will cost you $150 (dont argue with tech about this you will just get:smileymad
.
