How do you get AT&T to fix you problems without costing yourself hours and time and lost wages?

I am very upset with AT&T right now and am about to switch to cable. I have U-Verse with AT&T and the other day my phone is not working. Call AT&T and they say they will send someone out. Repairman gets here and he says the issue is probably the modem. So he goes ot his truck and gets a "new" one except when he plugs that one in, it doesn't work either (way to go and the cheap refurb). He goes back to truck and gets a second one and says that should do it, tries the phone and it now works. Later that day though when I go onto my laptop, I find that the wireless connection does work beyond 5 feet from the modem! Call AT&T back and they say they have to send someone else out. That is another day off of work for me, the guy comes, says that the modem is no good (the third modem in a week for me, mind you) and replaces it with my fourth modem that week, tests the Internet, phone, and cable and states I should be set. That night, I go to watch my DVR, and ALL MY RECORDINGS are gone! I try to record something new, and that doesn't work either. So now I call back for a thrid time, and they say, it must be your box, we'll send someone out!!!!!! So in order to get my one simple issue fixed, it led to then breaking more things than they fixed and will take up at least 10 hours of my time and two full days off of work. What do I get offered for all this, a $25 credit!!!!! What a joke, considering that I lost more that $25 worth of service alone, not even counting the $250 in lost wages i had now.I plan on calling tomorrow to see what else they are willing to do for me otherwise I am going back to cable, as I never has issues like this with them.
