I was just sitting at my computer with the TV off when I heard this beeping sound coming from my TV. When I went to turn on the TV, it showed a black screen with the words 'Invalid Format' at the top. When I went to turn everything off, only the TV turned off.
I held the power button on the DVR for the required 10 seconds, and when it turned back on, the TV screen showed a loading bar before going back to the black screen with 'Invalid Format'.
What's going on and how can I fix this? And please use simple words because I don't know a lot about cords and wires and things.

What brand and model of TV do you have?

I'm not sure, but it has an underlined W within a circle on it.

Is it Westinghouse? Also, how is the TV connected to the U-verse receiver?

Are you able to tune to another input (i.e DVD player, blu-ray disc player, VCR, game controller, etc) and view content?

We don't have any of those attached to this TV.

Ok. Try this: Unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the TV. Then unplug both your TV and the U-verse receiver for about 5 minutes. Then plug all 3 back in. After everything comes back up, let us know what happens.

It works, but I've lost all my recorded shows.

A normal reboot should not result in the loss of recorded programs. You might have a DVR that is going bad. You might want to call Technical Support at the number shown in my signature to see if they can ship you a replacement.

We've only had this DVR for a few months. Does it cost anything to get one shipped?

No, not if a defective unit is being replaced.
