Now that Fios has come out and is offering staggering speeds of upto 300 MB d/l and 65 u/l Uverse needs to do something.
18 d/l w/ 1.5 u/l is literally a joke when you see other carriers offering MUCH more for comperable pricing.
I even priced it out(mother lives in a FIOS area) and for 25/25 internet, same amount fo TV it was $15 CHEAPER for Fios.
My local cable provider is offering 25/5 internet for about the same price and I am seriously considering dumping Uverse for DTV and Cable. The 4 streams was a great Niche, but DTV now has a DVR that can do that, and whole home DVR and they broadcast in 1080P not 1080i / 720p.
Please someone convince me as to why I should stay with Uverse vs doing the switch to DTV/Cable for the same pricing?

Why? Except for a very limited area in the Dallas market, U-verse and FIOS do not compete for the same customers. Also, FIOS is available to a very small percentage of customers throughout the country.
If you have need for faster internet speeds and feel that the combination of DirecTV and cable better meet your needs, that is what you should do.
By the way, other than some PPV movies, programming on DirecTV is not broadcast in 1080p. No channels broadcast in 1080p.

I have been a loyal U-verse subsciber since it came onto the DFW market. I really would hate to leave, but aside from being a customer for this long, I can't find anything literally stopping me in terms of features from leaving. Guess it's time to face the music and say goodbye.

As I explained in my earlier message, FIOS is not a competitor.

Technically there are some areas of uverse that are FTTP like FIOS, however the same amount of extremely high download/upload aren't available. The last I heard is that ATT released 54Mbps DL (or was if 56?) in some test areas if you were close enough to the VRAD.
I won't try to convince you to stay... for the cheaper price, they probably are a better option for a faster internet connection. As texasguy37 explained twice, ATT isn't trying to compete with FIOS. It's completely up to you!
Most people don't take advantage of anything about 12Mbps download anyway... rarely even 6Mbps.

I have the 12Mbps/1.5 link....12Mbps is ok, I get 100Mbps on my server, but the 1.5 upload is a joke. It is going to take me 2 months to backup my data to the cloud.
If I go to work on our 1Gbps connection it will take a couple of hours.

AT&T does need to start stepping up speeds or lose out to competitors.
It is true FIOS isn't a competitor but Comcast, as an example, is a direct competitor. In many Comcast areas 30Mbps is the offerred max with 45Mbps, 55Mbps and even 105Mbps on the way or live. For example in Houston, TX one can get 105Mbps from Comcast. Plus Comcast isn't the only direct competitor. In Atlanta, GA there are other cable companies with 30Mbps or greater max services.
So AT&T is facing direct competition from cable companies and they are and will continue to lose those customers that require or desire additional speed. I understand most people's needs are met by 10Mbps for general Internet experience but cable companies are rolling out faster speeds for all. AT&T, like other Internet providers, continue to increase bandwidth on the backend as new fiber is laid to upstream boxes. So come on AT&T get with the program or continue to lag behind cable companies and lose customers. Your call AT&T.

I will agree that AT&T may have to step up the speeds, a bit. Comcast has been bleeding customers here in Indianapolis but the increases to the top two tiers might just stem the hemorrhaging a bit.

In reality most people don't "need" the additional speeds. I know I won't pay the prices that some of the competitors charge for their higher tiers.
