Email problems on tilt 2 after installing ROM update

So... I have finally got around to updating my tilt 2 rom, and now i cant get my work email to recieve or send. It repeatedly asks for my user/ password. checked the obvious, yes they are correct, yes the domain is correct, yes i checked save password in setup, and yes i re-enter it every time and it still says i need to reenter. Recap it knows there are messages coming in and attempting to go out but it just doesn't want to do it. oh and authentication not required. this is limited on options for me to make adjustments. finally everytime i go into account settings my password is about 6 characters longer but i cant see them due to the * blinding. however the correct number of characters are in place when it asks me to re-enter. please help, anybody, somebody.
