Promised to keep everyone updated. A number of trips back and forth to Florida demonstrates that this problem doens't exist, there. Would love to know what it is about the network in Detroit that keeps the phone from maintaining a cellular data connection.
Or if there's some workaround.

I recently drove 7500 miles on a trip around the US starting in Washington State. I started having the data connection drop described in this thread around the time I got to Illinois and keep occuring to IN, OH, KY, TN, MO, KS, CO, and WY and then the issue stopped occuring when I got to Idaho. So the problems seem to me to be across AT&T's network in the midwest. My Titan II worked fine across WA, MT, SD, ND, and MN. Very frustrating.

UPDATE: HTC insisted on sending me a new SIM card cover (since it contains the radio's antenna). Despite my argument that the fact it works in Florida negates antenna as a suspect, they sent it along, anyhow. Naturally, there is no change. It still randomly drops cellular data. And now, I've picked up another spot on the freeway where my calls get dropped. Granted, it happened ONCE, so that could be any number of things. Long story short, it's not the antenna.
Next idea?

Well, I started with the first HTC Titan II in July, it is now October and I've gone through 4 phones all with the same problem. I keeps dropping data. I've replaces the sim card 4 times and the same issue. Now ATT is sending me another phone, so I will be going through 5. I've also contacted HTC support and they say there is nothing they can do since ATT is sending me another phone. HTC also wants me to send them my phone and be without a phone for 3 weeks. That is unacceptable since I work from my phone. By the way I live in Denver and I always have full bars and a 4G next to them, but no data. THis SUCKS!!!

In the dialer enter ##3282#. This will open a diagnostic menu. Select ... > settings and you will see an option for network type. This setting might reset if the phone is restarted.
