Since the Mango update, Windows Phone 7 added support for hidden WiFi networks. According to this tutorial (that was even on an AT&T branded Samsung phone) it shows how to connect. However, I do not have the add button that is displayed in step 4! Is this because I'm on an LG Quantum and this is a Samsung feature? I thought things like this couldn't happen? Does anyone else with an LG Quantum do have this button?

This is an interesting question and I'll admit, I immediately picked up my Samsung Focus to see if I had the "add" button and I do.
It makes sense that this add button would be available across all updated Win7 phones and not limited to specific models but it is not unheard of for different models to have different features.
That said, I need to do a bit more research on this before I have a solid answer for you.
Stay tuned! ![]()

I got the call just now. He said that he's been looking into it and it seems that only some LG Quantums are affected. He still doesn't know why, and will be reaching out to LG (or if he can't, I might have to). He said he'll be looking into this over the next couple days. So we'll see.
Thanks for the update - I sent you a reply PM as well. Please take a look...

I talked on the phone with the man from AT&T as well as with LG a few times. They had me try a few things, and I tried a couple extra for good measure: Manually check for any additional updates that somehow may not have been installed through Zune (there were none), roll back the phone to before the update and re-apply it (didn't make a difference) and do a factory reset (no difference). LG doesn't know what's wrong either. Apparently I am the first one to actually call either AT&T or LG about this problem.
LG wants me to send my phone in and they're going to try and debug it there, perhaps doing a clean OS reinstallation on the device. In the meantime I still have my old Nokia E71x so I'll be using that while it's in for servicing. Hopefully this leads to some more information and a resolution.

Well it would but I've got a high tolerance for this kind of thing. This is precisely why I kept my Nokia around--to use it as a backup if I needed it. I normally wouldn't go through all of this since I don't absolutely *need* a hidden wifi network, it's only really an inconvenience, but it *should* work, and apparently is a widespread issue. Being that neither AT&T nor LG heard about the issue before I brought it to their attention, I think I should at least follow this through to its conclusion.
With technology, there will always be bugs and malfunctions. The people who support it expect us to put in an effort to report bugs and cooperate with them so that they can squash whatever got missed during QA and help improve their products. Besides, I don't like settling for accepting a malfunction, because since part of it already is not operating correctly, that means it's in an untested state. Who's to say that whatever is the cause won't cause larger problems down the road?
I'm a patient guy. It's an inconvenience to not have good old Windows Phone for the time being (moving back to Symbian S60 is a bit jarring, and it's certainly not as powerful, though it's capable), but I want to see this fixed, so I'll put up with it. ![]()

It is entirely possible that when I get it back it won't have been fixed. If it's something wrong in their software, a fix may only come when they release a new firmware update. It might be that certain revisions of LG phones are affected, and not others. So we'll see.
I'll post when I actually send it out. I haven't yet. I'll probably get to do so this weekend. I'm using the Nokia right now just to make sure it works and I get used to it (plus, the Quantum was factory reset and I don't feel like setting it up again just to reset it before I mail it out in a couple days

I just called LG right now. They said my phone went out to be shipped back last night. They said it was fixed.
I asked what they had to do and they said that after they hooked the phone up to their testing equipment, it showed that something was freezing (I take that to mean that something in the kernel hung and so it screwed up with drawing the interface). Basically, it was a software failure and apparently they just had to do a complete OS reinstallation. I'll have to verify the fix when I get the phone back, of course.
I'll post an update when I get my phone back in the mail.

So, I got the phone back today. It still does not have that button to add networks. I called up LG again and the man onthe phone said that the LG Quantum was designed that wa, and that the woman who I was on the phone with earlier who set me up to send it in was not a smartphone specialist so she didn't know. So, apparently it is by design (by LG). Sorry about that.
