Just replaced my Blackjack II with the Glisten. The modem is set up properly in my laptop but I keep getting Error 718 and the login times out. Does anyone have the complete procedure for setting up the HP Glisten so i can tether my laptop? I tried changing the APN to WAP.cingular and ISP.cingular but I'm not sure on the rest of the settings. The BJ II configuration didn't seem to use the username or password fields. Please help.

There are several ways to tether with a Glisten. Make sure you have an appropriate tethering plan and check out this article:

I was looking for the configuration settings. Like how to set up the proxy server and which one I should use ISP.congular or wap.cingular.

There is no proxy server and you should have a tethering plan and use isp.cingular.

Ok. So I guess the problem is that when I open modem link on the phone, it does not give me an APN to choose from. Is there a specific APN that I need to set up on the phone to use Modem Link? The phone comes pre-configured with IPAQ WAP that the programs use to connect to the Internet and private networks. That can't be changed (locked) but it will allow you to create additional ones that will show up in Modem Link. I just don't know how to set it up.

Hmm, on most new AT&T phones the isp.cingular is set as the default for both Modem Link and Internet Sharing.
If that does not seem to be the case, we can create a new connection profile. Go to Start -> Settings -> tap on the Connections tab -> Connections (icon this time) -> then select Add a New Modem Connection or Make a New Modem Connection.
Enter in any name for the 'Enter a name' field. For 'Select a modem', select 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)' if available, 'Cellular Line' if not. Select Next. Use isp.cingular for the Access Point Name. Leave username/password/domain blank. Select Advanced. Select 'Use server-assigned IP address'. Make sure both 'use compression' boxes are unchecked. Select OK. Select Finish. You should now have a new connection profile to use!
Please let me know if that does not work, I wrote this using my phone as a guide and it isn't a Glisten. ![]()

Well it seems that Internet sharing seems to work. I was trying to get modem link to work, but I guess i don't need it. I never knew that Internet-sharing would allow mw to tether my laptop and provide internet access to it. Is there any advantage to using modem-link?

Modem Link lets you use your phone as a modem and Internet Sharing shares the internet connection from your phone to the computer.
I personally prefer Internet Sharing. It's so much easier to use! Some people may prefer using Modem Link if there are some particular settings they need for the connection, I guess.
