Lumia 900 Camera & Volume buttons don't work while screen is off

I got my Lumia 900 on Friday and so far it's great. 

There are two minor problems though that I can't figure out how to fix.  Both of these things worked on my previous Windows Phone 7 (WP7) device. 

1. When I'm playing music and the screen/display is turned off, the volume buttons don't work.  In order to adjust the volume, I have to turn on the power on the phone (I don't have to unlock the phone.)

2. When the screen/display is off, I *should* be able to hold down the camera button and go from off to taking a picture.  If I turn on the screen, I can go from the lock screen to taking a picture. 

I have a feeling that these are related.  Does anyone have any ideas?

I am also facing the same issue.!! the buttons are not working while the screen is locked.!!

Something must have been changed in the new build.!!

my camera button works when the device is in standby.

i can confirm #1 happens for me too, and I also remember that my previous windows phone allowed for the volume to be changed while the device is in standby. The other thing I noticed was that before when I inserted the stereo jack, it'll wake up the screen. That doesn't happen with the Lumia 900. No idea if that's a hardware thing or a change in the newer build of windows phone os.

I'm having the same issues.  I'm sure the release on the 16th, the one that is going to fix the tower issues, will address these also.

Initially I thought my camera button was not working but when I held it down for a couple seconds the camera came on.

I also have the same issues. Did not occur on my Samsung Focus. Pocket now calls it out in their review of the phone...

My camera button works from the standby mode.  I held the camera button for 1-2 seconds, felt the phone vibrate, then the viewfinder came up on the screen.

I haven't tried the volume buttons yet.

Make sure you reboot after the update also. They must have fixed alot because thhe phone feels much speedier

I just applied the update (http://www.nokia.com/us-en/lumia900update/) and it fixes the camera buton problem.  The volume controls are still non-functional when the display is off though.

Yes, thanks to you, Dr Jekyl, I remembered to reboot.

Actually, sometime this afternoon, the volume buttons started working while the screen is off.  It definitely didn't work in the morning but by this afternoon it was working.  The only thing that I did that might be remotely interesting was enabling the passcode lock on the phone and disabling the passcode lock.

It seems to work now.

My camera button works, but it's not 100% reliable.

The volume buttons definitely do NOT work as they are supposed to work.  When the screen is locked, i.e. dark, the volume buttons rarely, if ever, work on the first press.  A seond press works maybe 25% of the time, and thereafter they work normally.  However, 75% of the time, the volume butttons cannot be made to work unless the power button is depressed so the screen is lit (thought it's not necessary swipe the lock screen upward).  This is not normal Windows Phone behavior, because the volume on my original Focus worked 100% of the time when the screen was locked.

I've tweeted Nokia USA about this and await a response.
