I find that I generally prefer the touch screen. The primary reason is simply because some of the apps I use only have touch screen versions. That was what drew me to the Epix. But, you are probably right. I don't see them releasing another one in the same form factor. I refuse to do a Crackberry, and I got tired of sliders a long time ago. If they had the Treo Pro, I probably would have gotten that instead of the Epix.
Oh well.,

They may have fixed the slog dump but now I have noticed that on occasion when I dial, the phone will say dialing for like 1-2 minutes!!!! Pressing end will not do anything. It will get stuck on dialing. The only solution is to wait and the phone gets "released" eventually, or removing the battery. This has happened 4-6 times since I applied the update. Did anyone else experience this?
There is no doubt in my mind, Samsung will not fix all these issues. It is probably not cost effective, especially when they are probably working on their next generation WM Pro phones.
.
If you have noticed any issues that prior to installing the update did not exist please post them here. I would like to separate the thread from the resolved SLOG DUMP thread. Thanks
you can always pick up a treo pro on ebay

And yet another thing that has changed. Before the update, I was able to use any key to turn the screen back on, regardless of it being locked or not. Now I can only use the power button to turn the screen back on. Minor, but I liked it the way it was.
Im sure Samsung would say... it is not a bug.. it's a feature

I have to admit, I had most of the issues described in this thread before and after I flashed the update, including the dialer freeze issue, but last night I decided to hard reset the epix just to see if that had any effect. Well, to my suprise, it's behaving like a completly different phone.
The notifications issue and the ascending ring issue are both fixed after the hard reset, without having to flash any post hard reset patches. I also haven't had any dialer issuessicne the hard reset either. I am suprised that AT&T didn't reccomend a hard reset after applying their SLOG update, because I would now say that it should be a required first step.
My epix has finally become the phone that I always wanted it to become.

Let us know if you keep get a freeze during a dial. I suspect you would. Also, I would imagine that your phone still jumps between Edge and 3G. I doubt your phone is different as I believe everyone else tried the hard reset option

I immediately did a hard reset after the FOTA was done, and have yet to experience a freeze while dialing. I have only made a few calls thought, so the jury is still out.

Yup. I did a hard reset after the update, and that was when I noticed things seemed to be better. But I am now also getting the dialing freezes and such.

an occasional jump is fine. I have watched mine go back and forth between 3G and Edge rapidly, and even expressed this to the ATT CSR I was speaking to at that time. I didn't time or count it, but I think it was 10 switches within about 45-60 seconds. Way too high. She tried saying I was in a marginal signal area, but my boss has an HTC device that holds a very stron 3G signal here in our office.
Unfortunately, a lot of these reps are clueless. I actually had one tell me something similar. Then I mentioned that with my other phones have always had full strength, and that my office is line of sight with an AT&T tower (100 feet or so), and that the Epix was the only one that did it. Not all the time, but enough to drive ya batty.

Yea, I thought everyone was crazy too when I did my first hard reset after the update with good results. Now, I perform a hard reset everyday thinking it is going to fix the weird issues (I'm optimistic!). I just powered my phone on (after it took a short 2 hour nap with no battery) and it immediately became unresponsive after one call. I'm really holding myself back from throwing it out the window as ATT said I would get charged quite heavily if I return this phone with major cosmetic faults. Oh well, this phone is definetly useless to me, good thing I am nearing the end of my work week.
Zorak... you are officially nominated as the thread's comedian!![]()
I dont think a hard reset can resolve the phone hanging. The phone still jumps from E to 3G like crazy. I would have loved to stay with this phone, but owning it costs me too much time in frustration and lost productivity

I have been following this/these slog dump forum(s) because the Epix was everything I wanted...but I am LOVING my FUZE. The slider aspect has taken some getting used to, but other than that and no eliptical mouse, I love the FUZE.
I am still searching for a forward-facing win mobile phone...

Well... I did a second hard reset and the ascending ring does get fixed. However, the notification led still doesnt work past the 3 flashes, even if you set it to flash for 15 mins. Regardless.. I am now with my Fuze and so far loving it. Everything works smooth. No hickups. The slider needs getting used to but I dont think it will be a problem. I love the size as it is smaller than the Epix, but heavier. The screen is amazing. So far Im happy I left the Epix, even though I would have loved to stay with it but there were too many things wrong with it. When you start using another phone, you realize how many small things were wrong with the Epix. Even the time it establishes a connection when you dial is faster with the Fuze. I am getting solid 3G. No jumping between Edge and 3G. The on screen qwerty keyboard is actually better than I thought and easy to use for quick replies. When I need to write a longer email, I just open the slider. So far Im very pleased I gave my Epix back.
I cant see any new WM pro phones with forward facing keyboards. I think those will be limited to WM standard. The touch screen revolution is making all the manufacturers concentrate on larger screens.

Alrighty, I just did what I am labeling as my last hard reset for my original handset (my replacement Epix just arrived shortly after). For some crazy reason, my connection hasn't cycled (has been on 3G for over 10 minutes now) and I am contemplating actually using it. I've hard reset this phone so friggin often....
I don't have much faith, but oh well; Samsung is lucky it is sunny outside...

stoo,
I haven't had any real problems and I got the patch last Tuesday? The only problem I experienced was on Sunday when my phone wasn't receiving email. Everything else was working so I think it was a normal delay problem - nothing to do with the patch. Since getting the patch, I only turned my phone off/on once.
I wish I found out others where having a problem before AT&T called me last Friday to see if everything was OK. I told them I haven't recevied the SLOG Dump message sicne the install so they said they are going to assume the issue is resolved now. Sorry!

I think more people will start experiencing the phone freeze while dialing. I guess some can live with those issues. Since switching to the Fuze, I am having a much more smooth operation of my phone. Every phone has bugs.. the Epix had way too many of them.

Guandalf,
So are you running both a Fuze and the Epix still?

No. I got rid of the Epix. Running my Fuze and so far loving it. The battery doesnt last half as long, but as long as it gets me through my work day I am good. I always have a charger near by anyway. I talk a lot on the phone and I only had to plug it in at 6 pm for a recharge. The more I play with the Fuze, the more I like it. It is much more responsive and quick than the Epix, only because I believe WM was implemented so bad on the Epix.

I would call again right now and get them to send you a new one.... when you get the new one... it will freeze too so you can get the 3 devices pretty quick before they give you the option to get a completely different one
