Veer OS updates?

HP had planned on updating WebOS phones and systems. webOSroundup blog heard rumors the update is ready from HP, but doesn't know the status with AT&T. This update will allow the Touch to Share fetaure between the Veer and TouchPad, a big selling point for both.

I hope this is pushed out soon by AT&T and updates are continued throughout the life of the device and two year contract.

Just got my Veer on amazon wireless for .01! I'm hyped right now and I can't wait to use touch to share, that is until my pre3 comes in the mail. At which point my kids need phones so they will both be getting an HP Veer. Let's go AT&T!!! Push that update!! OH BTW, I'm waiting to purchase my HP touchpad from you as well so break them out of the warehouse and put them online so I can get's me filthy fingers on 'em! But mostly, let's release the update... really.. the update will do... for  now.

Dear AT&T,

You made me sign a 2 year contract, and you ask that I respect it. I ask you to follow through on your side of the deal and allow the vendor to make updates the vendor has prepared. If not I believe my contract should be torn up.

I agree that since the Veer does not have an update for an advertised feature (Touch to Share), that the 2-year contract should be null and void.

A firmware update would also, hopefully, cure some of the issues we're facing with the Veer that are mentioned on the precentral.net forums.

I called AT&T for support and I was told to contact the manufacturer. I tried to get tech support for webos on a chat and the chats have been disabled. I am saddened. Really saddened. No touch to share on the Veer. apparently no support for the Pre3 I think I'm making the switch to IOS. Kinda makes me sick thinking about it. The new touchpad update allows me to pair to Iphones so that's one concern that I'm over. but still to have a webos phone would be outstanding! It's my money er phone, and I want it now!! Send the update AT&T!!!

It's interesting that AT&T would push their customers to call the phone manufacture? Isn't it AT&T place to provide the support for the phone under contract with them?

This reminds me of the Sprint forums as all the WebOS users tried to get answers from Sprint about the future of HP/WebOS phones on their network. And we all know how that ended.

Please AT&T stand up for your customers and push HP to provide the promised update which is passed due.

Guys, didn't HP kill WebOS and discontinued support/updates? Apple doesn't need AT&T to update their phone, Microsoft is the same way... I believe it HP that not updating the phone. There is nothing in AT&T's contract that guarantees manufacturers updates.

HP has discontinued future WebOS devices, but as far as I know they have not yet discontinued support or updates for existing devices.  Most phone manufacturers do not issue updates directly to consumers.  To the best of my knowledge, Apple is the only one who does this.  I do not own and have never used a Windows Phone 7 device, so can't comment on how those are updated, but have owned previous version Windows Mobile phones and none of them were ever updated directly from Microsoft.  Most (if not all, with the definite exception of Apple) manufacturers release an update first to the carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc).  The carriers then add in all their crapware and customizations, and then do their own testing on their network.  The update is then released by the carrier.  Apple does not allow carriers to install their own crapware or make any modifications or customizations to the OS, which is why updates come directly from Apple to the consumer rather than from the carrier.  Since my HP Veer came with AT&T crapware on it I believe it's safe to say that any WebOS updates will first go to AT&T for them to do their customization, and then AT&T will release the update to us.

hey AT&T it's almost end of this year and you are still can't provide us with VEER 4G update? C'mon... so much for 2 year contract. U have to support ur devices! For now - pretty bad exp. with u guys!

scot you are correct. Windows Phone 7 doesn't release updates directly to the client. Each carrier is waiting for they available update. 

So drumn_bass you are wrong.

Also you are wrong about WebOS, HP announce that WebOS is alive, and going open source. Also it's been officially announced that WebOS is not jsut going to be used on mobile devices but HP have plans on releasing new tablet devices in 2013. So WebOS is not dead. And it's up to AT&T request updates from HP.

I wasn't stating "facts". I just think that if AT&T had an update, and it was ready to they would go ahead and let you have it, so it's either not ready, rejected or not even received by AT&T yet. HP is a very random company seems like...

the phone is reaching end of life. i believe 2nd week this month.
