With T-Mobile and European providers already rolling out Tango, when can we expect AT&T to catch up to the rest? If you wait much longer, we'll be loading Windows Phone 7.8 courtesy of Microsoft Pushing it out and bypassing you!

With the 7.8 announcement, I wonder if there is any reason at all for AT&T to push an intermediate update.

AT&T will not be rolling out the Tango update or the 7.8 update to existing users, except perhaps those with the Lumia 900s.

7.8 rolls out without AT&T, so everyone should end up there who has 7.5 in any rev.

Highly unlikely AT&T will roll out the 7.8 update. If they do, they will hold out until at least summer of 2012. We all go Mango nearly 6 months late.

AT&T doesn't roll out 7.8 - it's direct from Microsoft, bypassing carriers. Everyone with a Windows 7.x device should be able to self-install it via zune, or possibly OTA.

Oh how you must not been around from the beginning when Micrsoft said that "carriers could only bypass ONE update". We all know how that turned out. Correction to my prior post, if AT&T does decide to push out the 7.8 update, it won't be likely until summer of 2013!.

You didn't read the press release. The 7.8 update is directly FROM Microsoft. AT&T and all other carriers have nothing to do with it. You, the owner, will do the update from Zune.
So as soon as MS releases the update, you'll have it.
Get it?

Seriously I need to know where you got this information from.
I hope it wasn’t AT&T because all they have done is lied to us all from every level.

I did read the press release. All updates past, present, and future are from Microsoft. The carriers have the ability to block any and all updates. All updates have already been done through Zune. I spoke to a Microsoft employee in person and asked why the carriers are allowed to block updates. His response was they would not carry our phones otherwise. I asked how Apple got away with it and he said because it was Apple. iSheep will always stand in line to purchase iProducts at any price. And if AT&T wanted to iPhones, they had to agree with Apple's demands. He went on to say with Windows Phone, the demand is just not there and for Microsoft to insist that Microsoft controls the updates AT&T would just laugh at them and say take your phones elsewhere then.

As AT&T customers, there is little reason to have ANY hope that the "WINDOWS PHONE PREMIER CARRIER" (sorry, that was extreme sarcasm) will release ANY updates for ANY Windows Phone now or in the future. I'm updating my devices manually thanks to the fine folks at XDA. But I do believe Microsoft said 7.8 will be made for all 1st and 2nd gen devices. Whether AT&T allows it or not is anyone's guess. Thanks to XDA (and not AT&T), I'm not worried about it.
I have also pressed my contacts within Microsoft about the future of updates and loser carriers like AT&T and they refused to comment but were quite aware of the problem. And for clarification, AT&T IS THE PROBLEM. They are quite aware of that fact.

It's my understanding that the switch to Windws 8 and it's use of unified drivers will allow MS to update the OS without effecting the drivers and connectivity of the device and therefore allows them to skip all carrier testing for updates. Part of the issue is that AT&T's testing process is painfully slow compared to some other carriers, in part due to the many different types of hardware in their network. There are some very old pieces of equipment throughout the US that causes their testing to take far longer than others, Apple gets around this by doing the testing themselves, not by skipping the testing and approval process.

Microsoft does the actual testing of the updates, not AT&T. AT&T just uses that as an excuse.

Just got off of a live chat with AT&T tech support and they claim that an update to the Samsung Focus S and the Focus Flash was just released today! I need to validate that after I get home and connected to my Zune account, but if correct, this would be very welcomed news indeed!!!!

I hope they didn't say that just to get you off the phone (which as of now looks more likely).

She did indicate it could be a day or tow before it shows up as available but that the update has in fact been formally released. With all the AT&T bashing, I'll give them (the support tech), the benefit of the doubt.... But if two days goes by and still no update, then I'll be upset!

I could be wrong but don't count on it for AT&T. The US carrier pushing it out is T-Mobile and a buddy at work got his update today (on T-Mobile).
I manually updated my Surround (because I'm pretty sure AT&T forgot it existed) to Tango today. I've left my Titan stock so I can see when the updates are actually pushed. I'm not using the Titan much anymore because of all the isues with 7720 that were resolved later and find the Surround a better experience because of the OS updates.
AT&T is SCREWING the platform. ![]()

I'm beginning to loose hope.... most of what I'm seeing on the web indicates that it's mostly the Nokia Lumia Phones that are getting updates... I've seen one or two people say brand x (non Lumia device) got a Tango Update, but they always seem to be in Canada of somewhere over seas but never on AT&T.... I give you ONE more day AT&T... You BETTER come though!
