Since 7740 is not being released by AT&T, when can we expect 8107 anounced by Microsoft on January 5th and some carriers in other countries are deploying?

I find it highly unlikely that AT&T will do the right thing and update any first gen phone to anything newer than the 7720 update. Even though this update addresses a few fixes that one could say are necessary. All AT&T cares about is the $$. Not the user. If we don't get it they expect us to buy a new one. Please AT&T prove me wrong.

I agree AT&T will neglect anything that does not generate $$$ so you can probably forget it or Google is your friend and DIY it. Just remember to have a way back to a supported version in case their head is removed from the posterior.

AT&T -- when is the update coming? I've already gotten skipped once and would like to take advantage of the fixes in the 8107. How about some communication with the community?

Hey all...
Just a quick reminder that the information posted about is not in any way supported by AT&T and we cannot provide any assistance should you have an issue with your device as a result of that information.
I understand that you're eager to receive your update and waiting is frustrating but I want to stress that AT&T neither supports nor recommends this action.

If ATT provided the update or at least the expected arrival date of the update we wouldn't have to resort into forcing updates onto phones.

Hi Jamileh -- thanks for the information. I can't really infer from the information you provided whether or not those of us with the 7720 version of mango will receive the 8107. Can you tell us specifically, will we receive the update? Or, if you can't tell us that right now, can you tell us if the update is being tested by AT&T. I'm interested in getting the update to fix some of the bugs many of us in the community are experiencing. Thanks.

Any chance an AT&T employee could be helpful in the forum? As a long time paying customer I would like to know when my brand new Titan will be getting updated. Onless of course AT&T is in fact encouraging us to go the hacked route?

Sure would be nice if ATT acknowledged it's customer requests regarding this update like some other providers do.
http://www.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-8107-os-upd
but I guess actual customer service from ATT is not something that's understood at that company.

Jamileh,
I understand that AT&T is a large company. However, when it comes to information about the devices we purchase and use on AT&T, the company is notoriously silent. This isn't necessary and is vastly counterproductive. Let me explain.
When AT&T doesn't update at the same rate as other vendors, there are 3 possible outcomes:
Outcome 1 - The device owner gets frustrated at the complete lack of device support and takes their business elsewhere.
Outcome 2 - The device owner hacks the device using tools freely available on the Internet.
Outcome 3 - The device owner grumbles and takes the punishment and does nothing.
All 3 outcomes damage AT&Ts reputation and ability to win new customers in a tough mobile environment.
AT&T must gain better mobility in the wireless market. One of the few ways to do this is to distinguish device support. We know billing support won't make it since AT&T is at the bottom of the list of carriers.
AT&T must LISTEN to its subscribers. This isn't happening or we can't tell it's happening. The dev and testing teams need to be telling us what is coming down the pike. It won't harm the bottom line to divulge information on an OS update. We already know about it from the vendor. AT&T just needs to tell us the plan.
This is my 7th year with AT&T. I've been patient with the more advanced devices. I've hacked them. I've left them alone. AT&T has disappointed me with every device. I'd like a carrier that acts like they care for the smartphone business. I'd like a carrier that acts like they care about me and my device. Quit treating me like some sticky goo stuck to the bottom of your shoe.
Do you think you can bring this to the attention of management that can facilitate change? I'm certain EVERY smartphone owner that relies on AT&T for updates will agree with what I have said.

Hi, Jamileh -- Thanks for the response. Can you point those of us in this community to someone who does have the information we are requesting. I'm not trying to be flippant, I just want to know if the update is being tested and if I should expect it. Thanks.

I understand what you're asking for. The information isn't available so it's not a matter of finding the right person, it's a matter of waiting.
As soon as I have information to provide, I will.

Jamileh,
It's all about credibility and integrity. In the community, AT&T has none. It would be nice for management to realize this and work toward fostering better credibility by working more closely with the user community.
The user community is why AT&T makes money. Do you know how much more money AT&T would make by working with the users rather than against them?
I appreciate you coming here and speaking. I know you can't do much. I just hope that others in a higher position realize this and start working toward better community relations.
Thank you.

All ATT need to do is put up a SINGLE page for their Smartphone devices (WP7 included) and maintain a quick and easy 1-stop location for all the Software Updates being managed by ATT.
So create the Update Table....listing Device / OS / Update version no. then...(examples based on WP7)
1. When an update is announced by an OEM or (more likely) Microsoft - please add it straight to the page!
2. Even just showing you are aware of it helps us (eg there are 2 updates post mango min.)
3. Use the version numbers that line up with the MS Update history - eg 7740 or 8107.
4. Then add a status for them, suggestions being:
- Update XXXX - Not yet received from MS/OEM
- Update XXXX - Received from MS/OEM - not yet in test.
- Update XXXX - In Network testing.
- Update XXXX - Not Approved - awaiting MS/OEM amendment.
- Update XXXX - Approved, Scheduling Deployment
- Update XXXX - Deployed (this should be staged over X period to all users, check via Zune PC client).
How simple is this? Engage your customers and treat them with a little respect. Not like you don't give a #^$* about them and make us all think that "we will get our darn updates if ATT ruddy well feel like kicking some scraps of their table to the rabble".
Sheeds.

I called AT&T to get more information on when my Focus S will be updated to 8107 because the keypad issue is annoying, the response i got was i need to call Microsoft be cause AT&T doesnt have any control on the software updates. i got my Focus S 2 months ago & the phone has 7720 so they sold the phone with older software. as other customers in this forum believe AT&T doesnt care about customers once you sign 2 year contract, all they care is about their $$. they dont want to update the software because they want you to buy a new phone so that they can make money.

So you are saying that no one at AT&T is even working on testing the new software ? if some one is working on testing this then they should know approximately when the new software will be released for AT&T phones. I think this Microsoft's fault they shouldn't have given this option to AT&T they should follow Apple, absolutely no AT&T control on the software.

Ummm - how do you think Microsoft - who need the Carriers to supply, sell and support their OS - gain the power in the relationship to dictate updates to them?
It was never going to happen. MS have like 5% (if they are lucky) market share. Apple is the IT device. They have captured the consumer imagination, They only sell the one device (yes there are different models of course).
MS on the otherhand - and even Android (with it's fragmentation) have to go through carrier approvals. Look how even 6m old Android devices may or may not get Ice Cream Sandwhich - or the lack of claroty over some units even moving from gingerbread to honeycomb etc.
The Carriers have the responsibility to make sure their network perfromance is maintained with each update, I just wish they would:
- Communicate
- Engage
- Respect &
- Support
their customers better through this process. Where is the service guarantee on updates? Where is the clarification of expectations for both parties (customer and carrier - and MS even)...?
Sheeds.

lol with all due respect, AT&T support is at best zero so what have we to lose, right now I am not getting any support or assistance, so what’s the difference. Going DIY is better than NOTHING in my book.

I'd love to get the most out of my Windows Phone. But I am having a hard time doing this with the keyboard disappearing all the time. When will the 8107 update be released?
I don't know why I bother asking since it is painfully obvious that if even internal AT&T people can't get a straight answer from their own company

With all due respect, this response is totally unacceptable. There is no doubt that you don't have any information about the update, but what are you doing to get the information in support of your customers? It's little wonder that AT&T ranks last among wireless carriers in the area of customer satisfaction. I'm just counting the days until my contract ends!
