Windows Phone Update 8107

I didn't mean to sound hostile in my last post and appreciate you trying to relate update decisions to us. However, from my reading, and experience with the device, it seems that these updates are pushed from Microsoft and AT&T don't have much work to do to allow these updates to take place.

So I guess my question is, what is the problem? Why would you prevent MS from upgrading our devices to ensure a quality experience?

8107 not only improves the experience but also provides security and privacy fixes related to email. Does AT&T take privacy and security of its clients lightly?

I'll just support my phone myself, no help from AT&T. I successfully updated using WPUpdateTools to 8107 with no hitches or problems. The difference between 7720 and 8107 is significant.

This is TOTAL crap! I switched to ATT from Sprint in hopes that ATT was 'the' carrier to give Microsoft devices a chance in a market blinded by Apple and Google. Microsoft has done a great thing with their OS and, in my opinion, made the update process far more simple compared to Google by leaps and bounds!

It's sad to see that carriers across the pond are giving their Windows Phones fans the updates in a timely manner but we can't get them here.

You've let me and other Windows Phone enthusiast down!

The best way to get at&t's attention about this is start calling and complaining to customer service and tech support ( that costs money ) early and often.  Also going into the corporate stores to complain will also look bad when they are trying to sell devices to new customers.

I am going to go out on a limb here, but upon testing my HTC Titan with the 8107 update I see great improvements. I think the reason for them not releasing this is deeper lying. With update 7720 and running mobile speedtest I yielded poor performance, subpar and a hair above 3g. With 8107 I am properly performing at 4g speeds, and when linked to WiFi I am getting proper wireless N speeds.

I think the choice to not release this is data speed and connection related.

In other notable differences, the keyboard is fixed with incredible accuracy, internet explorer is performing quicker, screen transitions are superbly animated with smooth transitions. It went from a great phone, to an incredible device. Why AT&T will not release this is beyond me. Maybe it is time to fight back, stick it to carriers instead of us getting stuck.

is there anyway that someone from AT&T can give guidance on when we, as users, will be receiving any kind of update? It's a bit appaling that the stance of AT&T as a company is to deny users an update that will fix a problem that they know aggravates every single user that has windows phone.

They least you could do is provide some type of information to keep people informed of when they might be receiving an update, rather than playing this guessing game. I really wish cell phone carriers were just dumb pipes.

jamileh, that is extremely unfortunate, and upsetting.  As a paying customer ever since the PCS days (prior to Cingular), I certainly expect more from the "Premiere Windows Phone Carrier in the US" that is AT&T.  I certianly hope you are taking our message to whomever in AT&T is responsible for making this decision, and get this update released.  If it AT&T's stance that you will be releasing a build from Windows Phone 7.5 Tango (part of the 7700 build tree) then please let your customers know.  If not, it is extremely upsetting that AT&T will not release a fix for documented issues.  And I"m not talking about conjecture from some blog.  This is detailed BY MICROSOFT on what is fixed in 8107.

If AT&T truly is going to take the stance of "if you want the update, buy a newer phone with the update on it", you will lose customers.  Period.  That is not a threat.  That is simply stating a fact.  AT&T has a major customer satisfaction issue on their hands.  One I hope you plan on fully addressing ASAP.

I couldn't agree more on both points. Carriers should STOP subsidizing devices. It simply causes too many headaches.

Everyone watching this thread, please submit a Better Business Bureau report (bbb.org), just as I have.  Report that you have contacted AT&T to inquire about the updates MS has made available to carriers to address significant issues (one is a security vulnerability, the other is the disappearing keyboard issue) that are addressed in the update AT&T refuses to release.  You should be contacted by AT&T.  I just submitted mine tonight, so I'm not expecting any reply until next week (or within 15 business days.)  If everyone did this, and by everyone I also mean those that are not posting in this forum and are simply reading it, maybe this will put significant pressure on AT&T to do the right thing (release the update.)

This is such a disrespect to all Windows Phone users. Ir is a bad business. I still can't believe this is happening in the USA and not some godforsaken eastern-European country. I really feel conned by AT&T into buying non-upgradable phone! Actually the phone handicapped by AT&T not to receive Microsoft updates. If I knew it at the time of buying, I'd pay extra for unlocked phone (in my case HTC Titan) or Nokia Lumia. It is just a spit in my face! Very disappointed in AT&T! I wish they let me to return the phone now!

I submitted an email on Nokia's web site expressing concern over the antics of AT&T.  I expressed my hope that  Nokia and Microsoft would see to it that AT&T doesn't "doom" the WIndows phone in the US, unless of course, Nokia only wants to be a European OS provider of hardware..

Now that it appears Apple will be producing a 4.6" iPhone and AT&T is not the only iPhone carrier now, it looks like I have an escape ...

So AT&T won't update it and they stop other people from updating it themselves. It seems like they are trying to kill the Windows Phone brand.

This isn't about some "network killing" feature like tethering, this is a MAJOR bug fix that cripples the phone when trying to type. Seriously, AT&T needs to get over themselves on this one. This is making them look dumb.

I am running a community version of ICS 4.0.3 on my Captivate.  Doesn't that have a MUCH greater chance of doing something bad to the "network" as opposed to software put out by the seasoned professionals at MS?

Call AT&T customer service and let them knoow that you are having this issue.  We can't seem to discuss it in the forums so I suggest that everyone call and demand that they fix it.

I've given AT&T the benefit of the doubt before, but this time I'm done.  I was about to upgrade my 3 lines to Nokia 900s, but I'm done.  Moving to T-mobile.  I've had a test phone from them for a couple of weeks and have to say their 3G is faster, the calls don't get dropped, and they support WP.

The disappearing keyboard bug is becoming quite bothersome...and the Google Gmail syncing bug is terrible....this is quite a disappointment coming from MS Premier Partner in the US market.

Hopefully, Nokia can teach AT&T about customer service where Microsoft hasn't been able to.  I haven't had the GMail bug, but the keyboard thing is downright maddening.  

The premier partner is killing the brand.  I'm going into the store tomorrow to see about having my early termination waived.  Is there someone at AT&T to call and get this approved?

Just manually update, its incredibly easy and takes no more than 15 minutes. Forget AT&T, its easier to support your phones yourselves.
