It's really not that hard to do this, if you need the update that bad.
That can void your warranty.
How? No rooting or other shenanigans needed - just normal installing of the update from microsoft. I'm happy to be informed otherwise, if you can point me at any documentaiton of that.

I have an AT&T locked Titan
I followed the instructions here http://www.wpcentral.com/force-updating-your-windo
I used the package of files that are linked here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/881958/Force%20Update%20Pa
I did have the problem at the end: "For those with COM errors, go back to the top and download the WP Support Tool for you computer and install." - that did fix it.
It takes a few minutes tops, and works fine on the locked AT&T Titan (mine was new in a sealed AT&T box, purchased off ebay)
You still do this at your own risk, but honestly it is pretty fool proof, and doesn't do anything that an OTA update wouldn't have done.

Hey all - I know you're eagerly awaiting news about this.
AT&T plans for a Windows Phone update that will contain the improvements in the 8107 update and more.
I will likely start a new thread as I get more information as this one is getting a bit tricky to find information in.
Stay tuned!

Uh, so where is it?

Anything that thinks AT&T is holding out and will release the update when Tango comes out is clueless. AT&T will not release another update to the Titan, period.

Update 7.10.8773.98
Messaging. Adds new messaging capabilities to your phone. You can now attach multiple pictures, videos, audio notes and ringtones to text messages.
SIM card. Adds features related to SIM card contacts. You can now export phone contacts to a SIM card and selectively import SIM card contacts to your phone.
Other quality improvements. Includes many other improvements to Windows Phone.
This update is not available in all markets or for all phones.
I guess that last sentence is for AT&T customers so they don't get their hopes up. I HIGHLY recommend everyone going to Microsoft's link - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-gb/howto/
Dear AT&T, thanks for nothing...

You can always do it yourself, if its never going to come from AT&T. It really is pretty easy to do.

I did my own updates on my HTC Surround. I've left my Titan alone and am waiting to see how long AT&T actually updates it. Because of the lack of updates, the HTC Surround is so much better to use over the Titan which is SO, SO sad. What's worse is that AT&T's staff aren't smart enough to realize that they are making Windows Phone users hate the platform. And by making ALL the phones say they are connected to a 4G network (when in reality, it's a 3G network), they are giving the impression that 4G is slower than it really is because people look at their phones and see 4G.
AT&T is obviously the dumbest, most miss-managed wireless company I'm aware of. Why couldn't they have kept the Cingular staff and only the AT&T name? If anyone from AT&T is reading this, let me state publicly that you have complete dillholes making business decisions and the only thing that I can imagine being a discussion is this:
1. Screw customers.
2 ???
3. PROFIT!!!
Way to kill the platform and simultaneously make customers hate you. WAY TO GO, you bunch of mopes.

Actually, it's Cingular that is the problem. The old at&t wireless was great - always very responsive. Not so with Cingular. I had accounts with both - at&t at the time was TDMA and given that I spend a great deal of time overseas, I needed GSM, ergo the Cingular account. When at&t added GSM, I switched my at&t Wireless service from TDMA to GSM and ditched Cingular despite the termination penalty - the service having been that bad. It's been downhill ever since Cingular bought at&t Wireless. Early after the acquisition I would randomly ask a customer service agent on those occasions when I spoke with them if they were Orange or Blue and invariably, I experienced bad service with Orange and good with Blue. To be fair though, I have noticed improved service the past three or four months.

Wow, totally my oposite experience. I had a Cingular (personal) and AT&T (company) phone when in New York City on a trip. I couldn't be on a call more than 7 minutes without getting dropped while on AT&T. It happened 15 times in a row. You know who I was calling? AT&T customer support to tell them I was getting dropped calls. I called them back from my Cingular phone and had zero problems. I was able to get out of mt AT&T contract after about 4 months because the call log, showing I was calling them, coupled with the disconnect information proved how awful they were.
The real issues I have with AT&T now is their nonexistent device support and they continual addition of crap-ware that can't be uninstalled. They need to completely start over in the device support department. I have a list of names of people that should be fired if anyone from AT&T is interested...

I asked on Facebook a couple days ago and this was the response I got:
My Question: "So, um... AT&T... What's up with that Tango update for Windows Phone? Since you haven't pushed an update since 7720 (a.k.a. last year), wouldn't NOW be a good time?"
Their response: "We don't have anything to share at the moment, but please continue to check back here for the latest announcements!"
fail fail fail fail

from what I've read online, it sounds like EVERYONE except AT&T is rolling out the update to their customers. Premier Carrier strikes again!

The *ONLY* device that gets support and timely updates is the iPhone and that's because AT&T isn't allowed to get it's stupid all over it. Remember when AT&T refused to carry Android and when they finally did they forced the manufacturers to only ship with severely outdated OS versions?
I have talked to some from the Windows Phone team and publicly they will not confirm that 7.8 or 8 onward will be without carrier intervention. Since I pay unsubsidized prices anyway, I will only buy NON AT&T phones from now on. The only thing I can depend on with AT&T is a horrible user experience and lack of updates.

Even though AT&T mentions the older Sansung Focus for update, there is no update even if the WPcentral instructions are followed.

I think those are the original update instructions because technically, everybody should already be on 7.5.

That's confirmed at least for the original Focus and Quantum
Quantum: http://www.att.com/learningcenter/tutorials.do?tut
Focus: http://www.att.com/learningcenter/tutorials.do?tut
Pay close attention to the advisories on both

There is no excuse for not pushing out bug fixes. There are people still dealing with the vanishing keyboard. That fix has been out since JANUARY!

GUys! Guys! (and Gals!)
I think I've found a work around our att problem!
You can update with Zune (official updates from samsung I think) by following this procedure!
http://www.wpcentral.com/att-sitting-samsung-tango
I am installing 7740 now and it's said to work all the way to 8733! no cab pushing, nothing exotic!
Thanks for nothing ATT!
Btw jamileh, if your cronies stop me from internet sharing while I'm abroad and while using a different sim, ... then these outrages will not soon be forgotten! Do you hear? I will not be forgetting these outrages ... soon!

There are many simple ways to install the latest update on any win7.5 phone - I've been running the latest update on my titan since it hit microsoft's servers.
If the zune trick doesn't work, google for
force update 8107 titan
Then google for
Can't wait for the Windows Phone Tango update? Download the CAB file now and do it yourself

I would do so, however I'm not 100% on the warning that it may brick my phone.

Sorry I did get overly excited there.
Seems like the post might just be a samsung thing. It threw me that in the comments people mention other manufacturers.
If you are trying to do the unplug, you have to litereally let it go for about a second and then pull it out. But once again, since the wp-central guys say its for samsung, it might just be samsung.
